The guy that wrote RealTemp (unclewebb) who has done a bunch of testing, theorised that all quads (intel anyway) had different TJMax on each pair of cores (actually, this was for Core 2, not sure about i7). Hence, he suggested that a Q6600 had a 100 TJmax for Core 0 + 1, and a 105 TJMax for Core 2 +...

Given you have run memtest for over 24 hours without issues, it seems that RAM is not the problem. Its somewhat suspicious that ubuntu ran without issues, but then, you didn't run it very long. You could try something like this: http://www.stresslinux.org/ Its basically what it sounds like, a small ...

Re: Why 4 header PWM on motherboards?
I don't agree with this.... or I have been exceptionally lucky with my motherboard choice. Its the one fan header that 99.9% of the time you can control!mattyc wrote:most motherboards cannot undervolt the 4 pin cpu header for a 3 pin fan

The thinner walled stuff seems to kink much easier. I personally went for 1/2inch (as much as I ALWAYS use metric measurements, too much info is in archaic imperial and converting all the time is more confusing than just dealing with inches) ID (3/4" OD) tube over 1/2" fittings. In retrospect I may ...

The fatter the tube, theoretically, the better the flow. In practice it makes very little difference however. Similarly, the fatter the tube, the harder it is to bend and work with. That said, whatever ID size you choose, I would try and get the thickest walls you can. I found it much easier to work...

My rev 1.0 WRT54G (which has to be 6 or 7 years old now) supports it... but its running DD-WRT so thats not quite fair! :) My DLink DIR-655 which is 1 or 2 years old doesn't (I think) support it. So yeah, its a crap shoot basically. In the future I will only buy DD-WRT compatible routers I think. La...

The 2 most common pumps recommended are the MCP655 and MCP355 (they are available under several brands). The MCP355 comes with 3/8 barbs I think, however it is not speed variable, and is probably noisy (although there is a slower MCP350 variant which might be okay). I have the MCP655, which is varia...

You can run tubes from your PC, into another room/outside/to the shed and have the rads/fans/pumps in the "noisy" location. Several people have done various different implementations of this. The most ambitious I saw included valves to allow a ground loop, bong, outside rads/fans and inside rads/fan...

Check this review: http://martin.skinneelabs.com/XSPC-RS360-Radiator-Review.html Specifically this graph: http://martin.skinneelabs.com/img/XSPC-RS360-Thermal2.png So, assuming 1000rpm fans, and a pump that can sustain 1.5 GPM (which should be possible given your...

My point was actually that many WiFi routers support wireless bridging. Its not a cheap alternative if you have to buy an expensive commercial bridge! :) I can't tell you if the linksys can or not. Also, most revisions of the wrt54g can now be dd-wrt'd, only one remains impossible: http://www.dd-wrt...

It really sounds like an issue with the graphics card. Perhaps a power surge caused some issues (although I'd expect it to affect the PSU?). I think if you have checked all the basic things, you need to start eliminating potential problems, and that means swapping parts if at all possible. Start wit...

I am happy with either Type I or Type II. Neither is quite as dumb as SpeedFan, and ramps up the fan in some kind of controlled manner that isn't just on or off. Being the control freak I am, I'd still like to control the curve, but as long as there IS a curve, it should be fine. The difference betw...

I respectfully disagree. The first priority must always be to keep the CPU cool. If the CPU temperature goes over some value, bad things start to happen (like crashing, blue-screen-of-death, etc). Fan noise is a problem but secondary to keeping the CPU cool. Your description is perfectly correct an...

I have been toying with a somewhat similar idea, so I have a few comments you may (or may not!) find useful. Firstly, the relationship you are describing between sensor reading (temp) and fan speed... is one that I dislike intensely. Speedfan uses the same model. It means that once temp hits Xc fans...

To remove the HDD cage on the Cosmos you will need to de-rivet or just cut the whole (half?) thing out. The Cosmos S seems like it fixes the airflow and cable run issues I had with it. That said... there are no perfect cases! I wish there was, I really do, but I am yet to find one that is even close...

I am using the fan mount on the bottom, as the GPU is hot, and I can't get another fan mount here. Maybe I should screw the bottom fan in (I need to remove the bottom plastic to do that I think?) and use the fan mount above the drives. Suspending the hdd's is a good idea, it should allow a little mo...

I have a Cosmos 1000 and I really wouldn't recommend it to anybody. It has poor airflow, especially over the HDDs, so they will run warm if you have 5 or 6 crammed in there. Doing wiring neatly in there is very hard, as there is a support column running down the back, which doesn't allow room for ca...
