A new one with lots of measurements of heatsink termperatures in an Enermax PSU run stock, fanless, with slow fan, in different positions, and with different covers. Some interesting results, especially regarding the question of directed "tunnel airflow" by using well-placed venting holes. Look in t...

Dont' know about your "quality built duct with wire frame", not having seen in but flexible vinyl ducting works well, as does duct tape over wire mesh. Flexible vinyl ducting is used for things like shower fan exhaust -- vinyl bonded to coil of wire that accordians, comes in different diameters -- 3...

To over- or under-clock, normally you have to change the bus speed of the CPU. A P3-1000, for example, has a bus speed of 133 MHz & a multiplier of 7.5 (Mutiply those 2 numbers and you get 1000). As the multiplier is locked, you can change the CPU speed only by changing the bus speed. This can be do...

Not all Enermax models work the same way, but it sounds like you have one like the first one I got. The 92mm fan spun relatively slowly (but still may have been at 12V, can't remember) & was unaffected by the thermistor. The 80mm fan was controlled by the thermistor. <br> <br>Why worry about the the...

Yup, I agree -- mess with this one & see if you can quiet it first. Taking out a fan will help, but you'll also want to slow the other one down. In fact, just try slowing all the fans down first. 7V or 5V -- if you don't know how, check in the <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.silentpcreview....

Yes, it is really such a simple idea. Now the inexpensive SH power supply I used (and modded) as described in my P4 article is looking like a REALLY attractive deal. $55 Cdn. One of the fans is on par with a Panaflo for noise & airflow, so you get a free fan (by pulling out the other one). Add a $1 ...

Actually, the 92mm alone would probably work fine, would would help cool the CPU a bit better, but you would want to remove the 80mm fan altogether & block all the other vent holes in the PSU (except for the 80mm hole). But use something to put the wire grill back on over the 80mm hole for safety......

It's not only about convection. Closing up the other vents will narrow the airflow path and should concentrate & accelerate the airflow over the CPU area, maybe the PSU HS too. Why not try it & see what happens to CPU temps? And tell us, it'd be interesting to test the theory. <IMG SRC="modules/phpB...

Maybe it is way over 60C before damage occurs, but I suspect you'll see instability before that. As a rough guide, I have rarely seen the chipset temps on my systems go past the 40C. Jose's advice is sound. Fans do make a wide range of sounds. The same fan at different voltages /rpm can sound quite different.
<br>
<br>But if you have a 3-wire fan, that resistor should be added only to the red or black (sometimes blue) wire. The third wire is for rpm sensing only.
