Here's a pic that shows my exact motherboard. I've tried to outline the area where my massive Radeon x1800 XT is. I'm looking at that passive zalman that runs about $5, it says it fits any NB heatsink on an SLI board that doesn't have integrated graphics. Problem is based on the sheer size of the cu...

NB heatsink/fan is out of control!
Hey guys... the fan on my motherboard's northbridge is one of the loudest and definately the most high-pitched noise in my whole computer! I've got a Gigabyte Nforce 4 motherboard. the real problem is, the heatsink on it is very low profile, and it's right at the end of the PCI-E x16 slot, so i'm af...

Interesting, I'll have to keep that in mind. The shuttle case I'm looking at does have a "sound blaster live" chipset, but I'm sure it's inferior. I've got an audigy 2 ZS in my desktop, maybe I'll steal that and put a cheaper one in that computer. My DVD/CD player is a pioneer elite with 6-channel b...

Okay, back on track, looking at a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s for the HD, Processor probably a 1.7Ghz Pentium-M w/ 2MB cache, overclocking the bus to ~150 while keeping the clock speed the same and undervolting as much as I can. Butyl rubber-based Sound dampening...

E-dead also sells the thicker, 60 mil butyl rubber stuff on amazon, $16 for 10 square feet. I'm pretty interested in this, with 10 square feet I could probably "do" 2 midtowers and a SFF too. Looks nearly identical to dynamat extreme, but maybe thicker. That roofing stuff sounds decent, but since it...

Undervolting Athlon 64s
Hi! I had a quick question for all of you guys out there... Looking to undervolt a Athlon 64 3700+ and an Athlon 64 x2 3800+ both currently using stock HSF, soon to be replaced. Anyone have experience undervolting either of these ? (or similar) Both are using Nforce chipsets (2 and 4 respectively) o...

First attempt at PC silencing
So about 6 months ago, I pieced a system together for my wife which (I thought) would be quiet and efficient, powerful and economical. Well at least, powerful for what she would be doing. I used a lot of hand-me down parts Here is the relevant info... [[[SCROLL DOWN FOR PICS]]] Athlon 64 3700+ socke...

Thank you for the replys, and please forgive my relative ignorance about many of these silent PC related items. My current computers are noisy as heck and I think I'll do something about it soon... again the funds are going to be an issue. BUT I found the SPCR article on that case, very nice, they s...

Pentium M SFF low heat/low noise
Hi guys! I apologize if this is a common question, I did about 30 min of searching and didn't find what I was looking for, so here goes. I got the media pc bug when I realized that my entire music collection is now in MP3 format. I love music, but shuffling through all my CDs was really annoying. I ...
