PSU Behavior before the big D...

first reply was accurate. It'll either go immediately, with a pop, or else it will slowly die over time.. random reboots, bsod's, etc. If you suspect your PSU is about to be toast due to the second case, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY. Test it on another, known good system if you have doubts, but... either ...

Hmmm...

Gonna recheck mine 'soon' after reading that other thread. I used to stock backplate (it's a nice metal one, even bigger than the one that comes with the ninja... the new screws that shipped with the heatsink, appeared to fit just fine, but we're gonna triple check everything. Thanks for the tip. TAK

Gah. Please let us know. I just installed a ninja. Oddly enough, I'm getting great temps from it, but after getting the entire system back together, it 'doesnt feel right' for some reason... and when I booted this morning, it failed to boot for some reason, just froze somewhere along the post, with ...

AAM for the raptor series is disabled. It's an enterprise drive, generally intended for workstations, where it'd be handy, and low end servers, where they're generally stuffed in a computer room. I can't remember for absolute _certain_, but I vaguely remember reading it somewhere in western digitals...

I've never used a smartdrive enclosure, so I'm not sure how well it would hold up. I do have two raptors, and I can tell you... as long as they get airflow, theydo just fine... but if you, say, sit them on a piece of foam or something, in a location that doesnt get a breeze, they get warm, fast. actually, after realizing it comes with a non-standard size fan (100mm vs 120mm), I've decided to pass on this. Thanks for the help. It comes with a 100mm fan, but you can use any size 25mm thick fan in it. Not much of a limitation in my book. Hmm.. worth thinkin about. Could use the extra fan area...

I have one mounted on my sapphire-bred x800xl card... modded the power to run from the card instead of from the psu, so I can control the speed via ati tray tool, etc. all that notwithstanding... at max speed, the noise is there, but it's not hideous. in 2d mode I run the fan at about 50% power, and...

Frankly, you're probably going to have to accept a powered hub for connecting 'high power' devices. I just stuck a usb wireless keyboard/mouse on my mom's machine, and tried to connect it to the built in usb ports on the motherboard. Came back with 'weak signal', and constant dropouts where the kb/m...

I dunno.....

Heat pipes exchange heat by dumping from the high heat source, to the material inside, which gassifies/boils/whatever. With the card installed in a tower case, this unit will be hanging upside down, with the graphics card above, like normal. All this means, all the fluid inside the heatpipe, gravity...

3d accel, etc.

Not sure about the temps on the nvidia stuff, but those look 'reasonable'. Might triple check your thermal path from the gpu through the heatsink, etc, but if you installed it yourself, you probably already know it's either good, or needs messing with. A little Holmesian logic leaves us with... driv...

modding the vf700 power cable...

it's a very easy mod, just did my own a little while back. basically just have to remove the plastic shroud from the vid card (without breaking the pins), and then rearrange the wires in the proper order on the 3pin socket... once you do that, you can just slide the socket down onto the fan header.....

I've had extremely pleasing results with my vf700 from zalman, unless you're needing to exhaust the air from the case. The advantage on the zalman is, they move air around local to the vid card, on the ramsinks (admittedly the flower only blows on the built side of the card, so if yo uhave backside ...

It 'should' mount smoothly to the surface if you have it seated correctly. The thermal paste should be quite thin, actually... you want to use as little as possible... it's for filling the tiny pits in the surface, to increase contact between the two surfaces by removing dead air gaps/improve heat t...

in fact, it's hot enough I'd suspect your reading is somehow swapped to fahrenheit, instead of celsius. If it really is, you're in danger.
