Heat pipes exchange heat by dumping from the high heat source, to the material inside, which gassifies/boils/whatever. Not sure about the temps on the nvidia stuff, but those look 'reasonable'. Might triple check your thermal path from the gpu through the heatsink, etc, but if you installed it yourself, you probably already know it's either good, or needs messing with. might try www.mini-itx.com and see if they have stuff that will satisfy your needs. they have several silent, or nearly silent, solutions, including do-it-yourself. that said, I've never actually ordered anything from then, so no idea on customer service, etc. Looks like a pretty straightforward bus...

it's a very easy mod, just did my own a little while back. basically just have to remove the plastic shroud from the vid card (without breaking the pins), and then rearrange the wires in the proper order on the 3pin socket... once you do that, you can just slide the socket down onto the fan header.....

replaced the stock heatsink with the zalman unit, and attached the fan to the onboard fan header. Point of note... the wiring on my zalman, did NOT match the wiring of the stock fan.. I had to pull the wires out of the 3 pin block, and rearrange them in the correct order, before reinserting. Pulling...

for the pictures... I have a 700 coming in the mail, and I was curious myself whether I could attach it directly to the card and control the fan via ATT. My fears are now assuaged, and I'll be making that mod when I install the unit.
