Is NH-U12P overkill for this build?

Antec Solo case Nexus R5300 PSU GIGABYTE GA-H55M-USB3 Core i5-650 with built in video CPU cooler, not sure which one. Noctua case fan 4GB RAM 1TB WD BLACK drive 32mb cache. Existing. I am looking for a good cooler as QUIET is of extreme importance here. I would even like to try semi passive with jus...

The saga has ended. I have ordered the SOLO. Which pretty much means that tomorrow Antec is going to announce their newest case :)

thanks for the excellent suggestions. I must admit there are some tempting cases here: http://www.lian-li.com.tw/v2/en/product/product04.php?cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=63 I am still leaning towards the SOLO. I have this feeling Antec will be soon coming out with a kick ass case that I will actu...

Got it. Thanks. I knew someone would have the answer :) I have a factor that actually no others may have to recon with. My cat likes to hang on top of my computer which I keep on the desk. An important factor in my decision that others may never have is will my cat be reasonable comfortable like she...

Amen to a SOLO refresh. Silicone feet also. regardless, I may very well be going with the SOLO. Or the Mini P-180. Talk about a tough choice.

Questions about Antec Mini P-180....

this looks like an extremely well built/designed case. With QUIET in mind too. I have 2 questions: 1. Has anyone removed or blocked off the top fan? And how? For my modest build I really think i will not need that fan. 2. Will my brand new Nexus R5300 PSU work in it? It has the large fan on top or b...

Yes, the MB has ESATA, However, I would prefer it on the front, as I will never use firewire. I was thinking of the Seasonic 650 as well. I ended up with the Nexus R5300. I think I saved a little money. I have space requirements, so need a smaller case than the P-183. Otherwise I am sure I would hav...

My search has also brought me to the Antec SOLO as the best solution for now. I get the feeling there are going to be a FEW new cases coming out this year. Seems most of the decent ones out are 4-5 years old.

Hopefully, some will raise the quiet bar :)

Yes, I purposely got a low TDP CPU. In this case the 15-650 :) That way I do not have to get one of those six pound coolers that needs to be reinforced with cement and steel :) Those things scare me. Cat jumps on computer, it wiggles a little bit and BOOM, heatsink breaks mainboard. There is ONE Ant...

Well, it is my current drive and i love it. Fast, and noise is a non issue and I expect it to be even less of a non issue with a suspended or grommeted install. Of all noise, some seeking has bothered me the least of all. I truly HATE a loud WHINE like a 15K drive. Maybe I juts got lucky but this is...

Still stuck on a CPU cooler. Noctua, but not sure which one.

I suppose nyhcbri is talking about a system with fans out of the box installed, and all other components wouldn't count. The question could be expanded: 1. The quietest case with all stock fans at full/minimum speed 2. The quietest case with 2 reference fans at full/minimum speed 3. The quietest ca...

I have revisited the Antec site and the SOLO is on the short list at this time. I think I prefer the designer series, I forget why. Many of them are so similar.

And I would REALLY prefer to get one with no PSU like the SOLO.

If the darn case had esata on the front instead of firewire it would be perfect. I'll stick my gum in the firewire port :)

Yes, I hate chemical smell, good warning, thanks. I too am looking for quiet out of the box. Sonata? Which one? Sonata 500? For a long time I thought Antec Mini P-180, but that 200mm on top is unnecessary for me and creates unnecessary noise. If it came with that as an OPTION and I did not have to j...

Any experience with this case COOLER MASTER SILEO 500

It seems like it might suit my new build, but I would like to hear from my fellow quiet seekers. Thanks, Dave

I have a Nexus R5300 PSU to start!

Obviously, I would try to get this case without the PSU if I end up going with it.

I wish it did not come with a PSU as I want to choose mine carefully.

Ah, very interesting about the PSU. I did not realize that was an option. Makes perfect sense :) I use a DVD drive so rarely that the noise it may or may not make is of no concern. Thankfully there is at least one thing I do not have to change. Do others use it alot and so have to silence that as we...

thanks. I had just figured that out about the onboard video. I guess I would need an i5 for that. And I would go to a nice 8GB kit for the RAM :) I am now having trouble deciding on a case. None seem to have ALL or even most of the quiet features that make sense for me. I see some cases that have th...

Thanks. I did some further research and determined that the mini-P180, in spite of some excellent features, is not the case for me. As I really do not need to large fan for what I will build. Thanks for pointing that out. And come to think of it, maybe I have not heard a silent PC yet :) My Dell Opt...

This is my super quiet, almost silent build, any thoughts?

Antec Mini P-180 GA-H55M-USB3 i7-860 6 GB RAM onboard video Stock CPU fan to start, I'll see how quiet it is. Spare DVD drive current 1TB Black 32mb cache WD drive that I love. One question is, would a Antec Sonata Elite be quieter out of the box? And, has anyone decided they did not want the HUGE f...

Seriously thinking of Antec Mini P180 build...

If I use a very silent PSU, will the stock fans along with a stock fan for the i7-860 be quiet enough? or will I need to swap out CPU and case fans? I will be using a passive video card and I am thinking that i will not even need the big 200mm fan on at all. However, I may want it, but at its lowest...

I have identified the PSU as the next most noise producing element. Shame to pay 1K for a computer and then have to put a decent PSU in :( I should have built! I just got a Dell Studio XPS 8100 i7-860. Man, what a build difference from my Optiplex. They cheaped out big time. Not a 120mm fan in the bunch. 80, maybe 92mm for back fan, looks like a stock CPU fan and a Chiconly PSU with again an 80mm fan, which does not seem too loud. I already replaced the vi...

I had a Velociraptor for about a week. Got rid of it due to the whine. Not as huge as one might think, but definitely too much for me. Very interesting, thanks. Super large heatsink, for sure! Being as I currently have only 2 fans, the shrouded CPU fan and the PSU fan, I am hesitant to go fully forward as the large fan on top may simply be a deal killer for me depending on the sound. OK, I now have a basic understanding of the CPU's. Micro Center is selling/giving away the i7-860 for $229. So in many cases, the i5 is not even cheaper. And they both have the same TDP.
