I wanted to do the same, but my 4870 card won't start up unless it sees the fan RPM on the card's fan port during the POST. If I plug in the stock heatsink fan it works fine. This has been an annoying showstopper for me, and I'm surprised I haven't seen more complaints about this. The card (a Sapph...

Interesting post as I find myself in a similar situation. I am in need of a new PSU because my current NeoHE 430w isn't stable enough for my recently purchased Vapor-X HD 4850. It will randomly lose video signal, and by process of elimination of other causes (along with a consultation visit to VGAfo...

Yes the 8800GT runs the game with ease. I love it. What I don't love is the fact that my KVM switch will not receive/notice a video signal coming from this card unless the focus is on this PC. Numerous times I turn on my 2 PCs at the same time not realizing the focus must be on the PC with the 8800G...

decision decsions...4850 or 4870 - need heat output info
I am wanting one of these two, but my room is small and get hot easily. I only game occasionally (quake 3), so 90% of my time is with an idle (2D) GPU. What should I be looking at to make this decision? Power consumption charts? Please recommend a link to read about this as I am in a hurry and can't...

Vapor X 4890 now available: SAPPHIRE Adds two new HD 4890 Models with Vapor-X . I am really curious about the following information, found in the above link: "The Vapor-X series features high specification solid capacitors and SAPPHIRE ‘Black Diamond’ heatsink chokes for higher efficiency and mo...

I futzed for several months with DVI KVM switches, but they were more expensive and had glitches, especially at higher resolutions. Just shifted to a cheap Joytech HDMI 3-way switch, using DVI-HDMI cables (from Monoprice.com - very cheap) and now I have a DVI video switch that works perfectly. Only...

I am not 100% sure I understood correctly, but if you use the DVI-->VGA adapter, the input to your KVM switch will be analog, not digital. I suppose you could try using such an adapter with your 8800 and see if it works for you this way. I currently use one of these DVI-->VGA adapters, but I still ...

Need Radeon with D-sub; prefer a 4770 or 4890
I am not sure if either of these models are manufactured with the D-sub interface, but if anybody has a link to a vendor that sells them, please share. The reason I don't want to use a DVI->VGA adapter is that my new KVM switch by IOGear doesn't want to recognize a digital signal unless the switcher...

Something important not mentioned here is how the mother of the OP wants to send videos to her friends/family. If through e-mail then any YouTube video longer than around seven minutes, if downloaded as a HQ MPEG-4 file, will be filtered out by many e-mail providers. The resulting file is larger th...

which program is safe/add-free for downloading Youtube video
My mom is asking me which toolbar she can install that will allow her to download the youtube videos that she wants to keep as a file on her PC to send/show to friends. She knows that I am generally against toolbars unless they serve a much-needed purpose, but she does not want to send links to the ...

Thanks for the info people. You only have to worry about the VRM cooling, Mosfets mostly. But since there are more phases than on the 4870, it shouldn't be as difficult. How do I identify the MOSFETS? I know I could google this, but I really don't have a lot of time to kill today. I have installed 3...

4890 - will the Accelero S1 Rev. 2 fit it?
Does anybody know? I have a brand new one that I have been saving for the 4870, which still may be the card I buy. Perhaps it is too soon to know if it will fit the 4890.

You can have windows turn off your monitor after a period of time. It won't be completely turned off, but having it in standby mode or whatever is still better than a screensaver. Yes i agree and that is what had intended to do. But like I said, sometimes this feature works, sometimes it doesn't. I...

Hate to do it, but I need a screen saver
I personally don't care for using them, but I find my new monitor's behavior of not going into standby when it is supposed to a bit distressing. I bought this HP w2408h for Christmas. I don't regret the purchase at all, but it does not seem to go into standby when it is supposed to. Also, when it do...

Here's a simple recommendation: BenQ G2400W. 24" D-SUB, DVI and HDMI inputs. Good but not exceptional image quality, according to reviews... still looks very good to me. Excellent text legibility and sharpness. Great value: I paid well under CA$400. Great recommendation. I am ordering one today. Al...

Aris... re-read what you just typed. A monitor doesn't output anything. It accepts video signals as input. I'm sorry? Maybe it's just my mood, but I really can't let that go without comment. Please re-read what YOU just wrote, and if you don't have an epiphany, see next quote: Monitors are an outpu...

1GB 4850/70 cards - cooling solutions?
With the new memory configuration of the 1GB cards, I am assuming that the beloved Accelerro S1 (and others) will not work on these cards. Is there any information on aftermarket cooling for these cards yet?

Uses for 800MHz PCs?
I have recently upgraded a friends PC (two of them, in fact). He let me keep the old hardware: AMD 750MHz and an AMD 850MHz. K8s'? I think? Not really up to speed on AMD products. Anyway, what can these be useful for. I have the Mobo's, RAM, and processors. I even have the leftover network cards, TV...
