I hope I got a better sample then. My PATA Seagate still lives and do just fine, not power efficient at all but it's been going sturdy for nine years. I don't expect a equally good sample but I expect it to last during the period of warranty.

I thought the 1.5TB version had 4 platters, with one being deactivated? hmhm. The LP is definetly quieter than T166, I can attest to that. Seeks with 16 LP drives in raid6 is quieter than 9 T166 drives in raid5... ;) I'm not sure about the platters, I compared it to a WD GP 2TB which is ridiculousl...

My reflections on Seagate Barracuda LP

Just bought a 1,5 TB Barracuda LP yesterday and while a was a bit worried about the 3 platters compared to the two I planned, I was positively surprised when I finally heard it. Audibly quieter compared to both my suspended Samsung T166 and WD3200AAKS single platter drive. Because of the review of t...

Most drives made in the past couple years would be fine without active cooling. In other words...you aren't going to fry it in the 5.25 bays. Not sure I agree. Just resting a HDD bare oon the open bench top w/o active airflow (which we do all the time in testing at spcr) puts the temp of most drive...

This PSU should work really well with a case with bottom-ventilated PSU-mounting, I surely hope more manufacturers comes up with semi-fanless 80 Plus Gold branded PSUs.

i gotta ask.. why on earth did you not suspend your hdd in the 5.25in bays at the top. It looks like you have plenty of room, and it woulda been a lot tidier and safer for transport Cooling would be an issue. I really like the mod, back to basic and simple yet efficient, really reminds me of my own...

Great review as always, the comparison with WD GP made it a lot harder to choose though. A two-platter 1 TB WD GP should be a bit more quiet compared to the 2 TB model, right? 500 GB is a bit to little for me me, otherwise the Pipeline HD .2 would be on my "to buy list".

Ever since I heard of these 2 chips recently, I've been wondering how these would stack up against the Phenom II X4 905e. I'm currently using a 4850e in my HTPC and have been considering the 905e as an upgrade. The 2 chips reviewed here have higher frequencies but also higher stock TDP and no L3 ca...

I made my own cover with a self-stick vinyl tile. I chose a tile which had a flat grain which looked similar to the case plastic. Most of the tile choices at the store had a stone-like surface which didn't look right. I printed a template, cut the pattern with a hobby knife, then snapped the vinyl ...

You should be able to dremel out fangrills and make place for a 120 mm fan. I think the picture makes it obvious that's not possible at the back, maybe the front... @OP why that case? you got some nice components there, why not something new? Off course it's possible, just look in my second cheifte...

No way with the stock cooler but if the AMD is 65 nm both should do fine passively cooled by a fanless Ninja, mini ninja or TR HR01Plus. This requires good free airflow in your case which you probably already know.

The front bezelin the K56 might be a little problem but it's easily solved by putting some dampening material over the area which have no fan attached to it although I doubt you'll consider it a problem. My front on my chieftec case is more open than my P182 but it's audibly quieter non the less. Da...

Normal temperature and nothing to worry about. The 9400GT is pretty power efficient and doesn't get to hot under heavy load.

Solo has plenty of airflow, by adding a front fan you make sure the gpu has enough. Solo isn't the biggest of cases but it shouldn't have any problems with the cpu-cooler, only really long videocards.
