Re: My Corsair VX450 fan seems loud

I think compared to some of the newer psus out there, the VX450 will never be nearly as quiet. Over the years depending on the person, a number have said it's quiet, but not silent. If you can, I'd say the best option is to return it and buy something from the recommended list that's known to be qui...

Re: Asus EAH6850: does yours meet up to the review?

Testing on mine shows about 1590rpm at 22%, I can't get it to drop below this. It is definitely quiet enough to be lower noise than my current hard drives, not sure how it'll be when I build my next system later this year. Max speed is 4000rpm, 50% is 2875 rpm, which is definitely hearable. 35% is 1...

Semiaccurate, aka completely inaccurate crap fud. It's sad I think semiaccurate is more fud than fudzilla. We've already gotten a pretty good detailed explanation directly sourced from Intel by Anandtech that explains exactly what went wrong and that it was because of a new shipping revision of the ...

While it's obviously egg on the face. Intel totally did right. They announced the issue in a relatively timely manner( and are basically funding a refund/repair of everyone's motherboards. Far better than the problems with apple, toyota, nvidia, bp *cough cough*, etc. There are many companies that h...

Re: Seasonic X-760 or CP-850?

The advantage of the CP-850 is that it's really cheap for the wattage and really quiet. But I think The seasonic x-series is likely one of the few that can rival the CP in quietness, while having higher efficiency, but I assume it'll cost more. Of course it's also standard sized which can be both an...

Whoa I thought this thread was dead since nobody replied for a while. I haven't done much testing yet since I was waiting for a way to edit the bios itself. Since that seems like an option more, I'm going to see if I can make adjustments as well. My card is pretty quiet in general, but it could cert...

does not mean that everybody else uses it in same way. Fair point, why not then use a much much cheaper lower powered PSU and wipe at least $100 off of the bill.? Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics

I appreciate the break down ... I'm running a Q6600 2.4Ghz system, I will upgrade when 5Ghz systems come out. I don't move until a doubling of tech has been made available. If you mean doubling, I think sandy bridge at 4ghz is probably going to be at least double the speed of a Q6600. GHZ doesn't m...

Now what you can say is I'm doubtful it'll use over 600 watts. Absolutely no need for a giga...or kilowatt psu. A good 750-850 would suffice.

Re: Anyone else looking forward to a 6970?

It looks like the big issue with the 6970 is kind of fermi syndrone. The original GTX 480 was fast, but also very power hungry and with a lot of features not for gaming. This is kind of how the 5870 evolved into the 6970. I think bang for the buck-wise, the 6850 and 6870 are much better choices. The...

Re: Will the Antec Solo get too hot with these components?

I'm running an Asus Radeon 6850 in a solo. Perfectly fine and good temps for everything. I was a bit surprised because mike's review showed a 10 degree temp increase for the cpu/mobo with this card. But the 5830 is a really bad choice, it's way less efficient than the 5850 or 6850.

Considering I just bought a 6850, not from a personal standpoint. But I gladly await the battle to the death between nvidia and amd from a practical viewpoint. Also the 6970 is way above my power threshold. I'm addicted to low power, but fast systems :)

Depressing. I haven't seen antec do any innovation for classy and quiet cases in ages. The dark fleet is ugly and pointless for gaudy gamers.

Pico Psu review at jonnyguru

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=207 I think this review proves that the picopsu is a nice small package, but has some major drawbacks compared to a normal sized psu. Re: What should SPCR review? (offshoot of Accelero Xtreme+ r

Yep I should say I'm a gamer too, not really high end, but I would prefer a video card like a Radeon 6850. That's not the easiest thing to keep quiet. My goal is to have a silent, but very fast pc. I also dislike fanless because fanless means poorer cooling. I'd prefer the lowest temperature, lowest...

Re: What should SPCR review? (offshoot of Accelero Xtreme+ r

I'd beg to differ that any useful technology on the high end can also come down to help with lower end devices. This is very similar to the trends in cars, many high end technologies are now things that we can get in inexpensive vehicles. Such as dual clutch transmissions used to be only in the 50k+...

I still love my HX520, but there's no way I'd buy it new now. It's a totally outdated model at this point. You might as well pick up something newer with high efficiency and a quieter fan. Also it's not like the HX520 is particularly cheap either.

Really dependent on your other components, but the 6870 has a max tdp of 151w, so you shouldn't be anywhere near the max of your psu unless you have some other power hungry components.

That's funny, you have almost exactly the same specs I'm thinking of getting for my nas box. The only concern I have is that the Zotac mini-itx board is not very power efficient. Anyways personally I think I will be putting a Truepower New 550W in the system because it's something I ended up getting...

Major misconception here. Being efficient doesn't guarantee any type of quietness. An 80plus gold psu could easily have a terrible fan controller + low quality fan and be quite loud. Now having less heat to dissipate will generally help a manufacturer keep fan speeds down, but not every psu is a fre...

Beyond the great suggestions made so far, one other important thing. The front power/reset buttons need to be much sturdier/better designed to handle a serious press. I've broken my button twice now without even using that much force. Should be a pretty easy fix methinks :)
