Darn, looks like I'm too late. Just picked up an Abit NF7-s and plan on going with a zalman NB heatsink, undervolted 2100 or barton 2500 and ... well I don't know what HSF yet...
So my vote definitely would have been for NF7-s..

I finally got a chance to download the RAR file, and I must say I am impressed. I have seen alot of good metal working because my father has built an aluminum kit plane (RV6) ... so I know good handiwork with aluminum when I see it. Very good job. I love the concept too, very creative. Wish I had th...

AGOIA core and undervolting
Anyone have any experience? Should I be looking for a different core?
Edit: Looking at an 1800 right now. But I can look at other speeds as well if that makes any difference...

Adding 10-15ft of distance to the PSU power leads will not work. The wire itself would eat up too much current (due to the resistance of the wire). It would be near impossible for the PSU to keep the voltages in spec. It's not the resistance of the leads you need to worry about. It's the leads pick...

Check out this page for a 120W power supply like the ZPC uses. I'm sure you could run a pretty nice little system with 120W if you are careful. It's $86 for a full kit, which is pretty decent.

silenceseeker - I know I'm not nearly as well qualified as Ralf, Mike, Dukla, et al to give advice, but if I were you, this is what I would be going for. An Abit NF7-S (ver 2.0) motherboard with a Barton 2500+ processor. IMHO this combination is the best "cheap" combination for silence enthusiasts. ...

Regarding a Micro ATX motherboard that has the capability to undervolt, I was searching around and found this page through Google. It shows the Biostar M7NCG MATX boards can go down as low as 1.25V. Mind you, these are the older versions (1.0~1.4), not the new M7NCG-400. I have no idea if this infor...

nbac - yes, you are pretty much correct, except it would (hopefully) be a fixed instead of linear regulator. I hope this would provide greater voltage stability, and keep the voltages closer to their intended values. The idea is definitely not appealing on a widespread level, but I know there are *s...

Dukla - yes, unfortunately you point out the main problem: my design would conceivably be very expensive for the best quality. However, it's possible to do two things to reduce this cost: one is to use parts that are simply of "acceptable" quality, instead of parts that are of "extrodinary" quality....

The current capacity for each voltage rail should be limited only by the budget of whomever is signing the checks for the units ... =) As far as efficiency goes, perhaps I was a bit too hasty in writing that. It wouldn't reach the efficiency level of say, the new Seasonic (78%), but taking into acco...

If I designed this PSU, would anyone here purchase it?
Hey group, I have to go shortly, but I was just struck by a bit of inspiration. I know that the silent PC enthusiasts have been looking for the ultimate in terms of silent components, and I think I have come up with something very useful in that regard. Now I know external PSUs have been done before...
