Undervolting software as service and undervolting a AMD L625
Two questions: I have a WHS box with a 4850e and currently I use Crystal CPU to undervolt it. However it requires that I log in and manually start the software. Is there a way to run this as a service, so I can avoid to log in? Secondly I have just got a nice litte Leonovo x100e with a AMD Turion Ne...

Thanks guys. I got the WRT54G dusted off and made it run on the tomato firmware. Seems fine, but I haven't tested the functionality yet, as I await the new ADSL line and a wireless card for my laptop (Yes, it is that old ;-). I could see that I should change the default value for how long it remembe...

Ahhh, just found the WRT54G in my piles of pc parts. It is a ver2. I'll try and get it running on the tomato stuff. Ilo, what use does your router see? As I understand it from reading around the net, is that if you have a high bandwidth use and/or many connection as retriving the serverlist in CS, t...

Surfing around I have found this one. http://www.netgear.com/Products/Routers ... R3500.aspx
It seems to draw maximun 14-15 watts from the wall and have all the bells and whistles. Will look for some reviews....

AP and router - Energy efficient
Will change my ISP in a couple of days and the new one only comes with a ADSL modem, so I need a router and wireless AP. I have a Linksys WTG54, but it is old, transformer power supply, and needed to be restarted often when I used it (as the current s.... Zyxel my ISP gave me). My home network consi...

Running CrystalCPUID as a service under WHS?
For most of the time, my WHS is ideling its time and my money away, so I run the CCI to reduce power consumption. However that requires me to be logged in as admin. I want to set it up as a service, but just want to hear if anyone has any experience with it before I try.

Software - Speedstep
I just got hold of my new server and HTPC hardware. In the past I have used speedfan to control the fan's speeds. But these new babies (a C2D and 4850e) support speedstep or similar. I saw somewhere that there is some piece of software where you can define the speed (and voltage) for the different s...

There is a reason amplifiers, particularly multi-channel ones, are that big. This design looks similar to a T-amp, which if you read reviews of you will find is not ideal for movies (although very good for music on smaller speakers). I would assume that the amps is class-D (dunno what you mean by T...

Thanks. That was good information. As I don't need the horsepower of the 4850e, I went with the 780G board, as when undervolted they consume almost the same power. And the price difference is neglible between the two boards. The extra price for 4 gigs of ram was also quite low, so I went with that (...

For the time being it will have 5 drives, four for WHS and one for uTorrent. So I need 6 SATA connectors and gbit lan. I have tried installing WHS over a SATA card. It's possible but not ideal and creates some hassle. However I wonder if I should run my two 500gb wd (server grade) drives in mirror f...

New file/media server for WHS
Well, MikeC has not posted his proposal for a WHS server, so I'm looking for some advise on the hardware for a WHS server. I have been beta testing the WHS on a 1GHz machine with 512 ram, but it seems at it is being a bit too slow to respond. The server runs uTorrent and a DHCP service and it is on ...

Need advice on low power consumtion gb switch
It should be fanless, minimum 4-5 ports, cheap and with low power consumption.

Auto, my tread was hijacked. For some reason someone began the linux vs ms bs and I lost interest in it as they where just ranting away. And at that point I already had made up my mind. It will be the intel setup with a 3450 card, as you stated and 800mhz memory. Now I'm just waiting for the 8400 to...

Alternatively you could use ducting to pull air through a side-CPU cooler and duct it out the 60mm exhaust ports. All that being said, I recently did a build with a 120mm fan pulling air from the front, a Thermalright top-down CPU cooler (92mm fan) and a rear 60mm exhaust port. I put a single quiet...

Is that so? For your information I'm writing this on a Vaio 505 with a 333MHz celeron and 192MB of memory. Running xp. It's not speedy but it gets the job done. But please, gentlemen, don't turn my tread into a linux versus windows or amd versus intel discussion as it is irrelevant for my questions....

As I can't get hold of a 8400 here in DK for the next two weeks, it might be a valid point. The mobo cost ensentially the same, save a few bucks. I can get a 6400 X2 cpu, for the same price as a E8400. Ram is the same but I save a few bucks on the gpu, but not a lot as the 3450 is so redicules cheap...

Jesse, thanks for your suggestions. A few hours spend searching for prices and specifications today has revealed the same answers as you has provided. Upgrade of my intel based HTPC - HD but no gaming
My HTPC needs an upgrade in order to play HD content in various forms. The machine needs to be fairly silent, have a low power consumtion and play HD/Blueray/H264 content in 1080p. It will not be oc'ed, nor used for gaming. I plan on getting a 8400 cpu as it seems to be the sweet spot and it is base...

Re: HTPC Advice needed: integration with other A/V component
...I've already set my mind in a Sony KDL-46XBR4 as my new TV (not cheap, but these things last many, many years).. You might want to reconsider that statement. In the past with CRT being a mature technology and beamers not falling dramatically in price, it was true. However for the plasmas and LCD...

so there is no problem, not now not even the next 5 years, cause since u use them in RAID array u can't lose any data and u can replace them, free of charge, even after 4.5 years for example...! That is simpley not true. If one of your drives fail, you will lose the data if another fail before you ...

Mean Time Between Failures. It is a statistical number, that is calculated on the basis of the MTBF of each component in the drive. IT DOES NOT REFLECT A LIFETIME TEST of the drive. Basically it is about probability. But some drives will fail before and some later. If you got one of the drives that ...

Hi, It helps very much indeed! Thx. There does not seem to be much difference between the plus and non-plu version except the pcb color and polymer capacitors, and good knows that the non-plus is fugly as hell.
