http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=506 http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=477 So according to Western Digital, their Scorpio black drives are quieter and presumably faster than their Scorpio blue drives! And for the Black, how would it be overkill? While I do play a lot of games, I value silence just as much. Not to derail this topic but is the Black with AAM quiet or as quite as the WD GP? I have the WD10EADS and the WD6400AAKS. The latter is quieter and much faster. The EADS is horrible as a syst...

Just looking at the CPUs, the E5200 runs much cooler: ~20W max load power and idle power <5W. Unfortunately LGA775 chipsets use a lot of power. I currently have a X2 5800+/740G and a E5200/G31. The X2 system can easily idle at much lower power than the E5200/G31 even when the X2 is overclocked. Howe...

Re: Fixing a loud stock E5200 fan
Is it easy to replace the heatsink and fan with the motherboard in the case? ... Can I just replace the fan and keep the heatsink? The stock E5200 heatsink is very small--basically worthless. I highly recommend getting a larger heatsink that can take a large fan. Some LGA775 heatsinks attach with p...

Still not as good price/performance as my $50 96-shader 9600GSO, but it should be a great deal when it gets cheaper. It's still 58% faster than the 9600GSO, and the prices on launch day doesn't really say much, they never have done and never will. Sorry, no, it isn't. My GSO is faster than a 9600 GT...

now I'm no engineer (phew!) but surely any part in the chain between silicon and air (via IHS>TIM>hs base>heatpipes>fins) is going to be at equilibrium once temperatures have stabilised? i.e., presumably the TIM can only transfer heat as fast as it can be evacuated from the base of the heatsink and...

I don't understand where you are reaching this conclusion. That review compares the TRUE to the original rev A ninja. The chart on the hr-01 plus review shows it performs 1 degree better at all fan speeds. And while this hasn't been explicitly confirmed, but I get the sense that the rev B ninja doe...

I wonder if the $135 Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition is worth the trouble over a Core 2 Duo or even a $70 Pentium Dual Core E5200. I have to say the latter is pretty quick when overclocked to 4+GHz. The Phenom II is still pretty power hungry--even with disabled core(s). I have a $55 X2 5800+ recently...

Did you try AAM? No, it is already too slow. :) It is plenty quiet when not seeking, but with a fresh Vista install it was seeking all the time. I am just very disappointed in it. If only used as a extra storage drive (i.e., less seeking) it may be fine. I am waiting for something like the 30GB OCZ...

Back in the day it was possible to shut down all services for avg (via msconfig..), but ever since their version 8 you can't disable it without disabling the virus scanner as well.... Does anyone know what the speed is??? My WD10EADS is slow and loud. Get a WD6400AAKS. So you have a defective HDD. I have WD6400AAKS, WD10EACS, WD10EACS, and there is no comparison between WD6400AAKS and any Green Power drive. It seems to be getting quieter. It is the seek noise that is so annoying...

I'm sure the 430 is the most efficient chip in the list, but what about the other two? Is the newer process used in the E5200 enough to make up for its extra performance? If anyone can give me some concrete numbers, I'd really appreciate it. I could just take the easy way out and get the 430, but i...
