Silverstone FT-03
This is a case I was not aware of until now - and it looks quite interesting! It is a mATX with a tiny footprint, and it can fit long graphics card(s): https://www.bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/cases/silverstone-fortress-ft03-review/4/ https://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2011/02/silverstone-fortr...

Re: One or Two front intake fans?
Olle, I agree about having controlled air flow through the case. Something I learned recently is that top exhaust fans are more effective than back exhaust fans, since warmed air rises, and top fans "work with" this. The graphics card is a key area - if the case is narrow, and depending on where int...

Re: The marketing of quiet case fans is somewhat deceptive.
Very often, though - the starting voltage of higher RPM fans forces them to run faster at low voltages. So, even when they are as slow as they can go, they can be faster - and louder - than a fan that tops out at a lower RPM.

Re: One or Two front intake fans?
Here's my opinion: more exhaust air flow is better / quieter - for two reasons. The main one is that exhaust fans are more efficient - since lowering pressure is going to shift air far away from the fan. The best illustration of this is a whole house fan - it exhausts air from the attic, and if the ...

Re: One or Two front intake fans?
No - I think the rule of thumb is if they are running exactly the same RPM, then there is about a 3dB increase of noise. If they are quiet fans - say 20dBA, together they would be 23dBA. Since they could be run at about 25-33% slower than the one 140mm fan, the pair of 120mm fans would likely be qui...

Re: One or Two front intake fans?
The two 120mm fans would have roughly 50% more air flow, all else being equal, so they would be quieter. Two fans are slightly louder at the same RPM as the single fan, but they could be significantly slower RPM. The other piece, though is whether the system would be close to balanced intake vs exha...

Re: Is a NAS worth it for a single user?
The best thing about a NAS, for a single user, in my opinion - is that malware can't make the NAS unbootable. I don't know about ransomware, but I think that would also be prevented. And to tie this into the quiet aspect - you can use an SSD in your computer, and keep all the storage on the spinning...

Re: liquid cooling vs. air cooling
Right - all cooling systems end up transferring the heat to the air. And all the systems use liquid as the interim heat transfer medium. Heat pipes are state change liquid and are passive - i.e. silent. Air coolers usually also have lower air impedance vs typical radiators. So the fan(s) are able to...

Re: How many case fans do I really need?
I want to push back on the idea that positive pressure alone reduces dust. The intake fans move just as much dust into the case as any intake flow. Dust is only reduced by filters, and filters add restriction. Restriction of air flow, means you need to run the fans faster. Exhaust fans are more effe...

Re: Threads vs board index etc...confusing me.
Coil whine is a tough thing to solve, sometimes. It can be caused by your mains power - sometimes a bad ground is the reason, or it could be an electrical user nearby you, that is putting noise into the grid. It can be an interaction between two or more components in your system - the power supply, ...

I would be concerned with the case, if the only exhaust is the rear case fan.
