i dug a little deeper and found that the P5B-VM offically supports DDR2-800 memory only at 1.8V / 5-5-5. (found this on the newegg p5b-vm specs page. it wasn't mentioned on the asus website's specs page, and i have yet to successfully download the manual from the asus website.) the following 2 memor...

i went and checked out the ABIT Fatal1ty F-I90HD. it looks like a great board. unfortunately, it won't work for me because i need an ieee 1394 / firewire port (don't want to add a PCI card just for that). also, the upgraded graphics won't help me, since i won't be using the on-board graphics. that s...

thanks for the detailed reply! The highest temperature my GPU has recorded was 84 degrees. isn't that hotter than is healthy for any component? i'd certainly like to keep everything a bit cooler, if possible. I don't like the P5B-VM. It's overpriced, has poor onboard audio (cracks a lot) and thankfu...

micro-ATX build: P5B-VM + NSK-3300 + which CPU cooler?
i'm planning a micro-ATX build using: antec NSK-3300 case asus P5B-VM mother board one hard drive, bottom-mounted one PCIe card - an OpenGL-oriented graphics card i'd like the system to be reasonably quiet, with minimal time and expense. my current thinking is to passively cool the CPU (scythe ninja...

today i noticed some cables positioned in a way that they may have gotten wedged between the drive and the case side panel. this may have skewed my test results by over-tightening the shoe laces or transmitting some sound to the case. after tying these down, i find the shoe lace suspension to be as ...

my system is not yet all put together, but it's together enough to experiment with the drive suspension. i ran the system with all fans unplugged, so the only source of noise was the raptor. i just powered the system on for a few seconds at a time, long enough for the platters to spin up to speed an...

i narrowed it down to the lian li v1100 vs. the antec 3700bqe. i chose the lian li purely on aesthetics. i don't regret the decision in the least! the v1100 is a thing of beauty, and i expect to keep it for many years, through multiple component upgrade cycles. i'm still in the process of building m...

responding to a several posts: (1) the drive is a WD raptor 74G SATA (2) the photos make the shoe lace stuff look thicker than it is. the drive does not feel tightly wedged in; there is quite a bit of play. i'm pretty sure there's no way to get more space without making irreversible mods to the driv...

drive suspension for lian li pc-v1100, pc-v1000, v-series
here are some photos of my improvised drive suspension for my lian li pc-v1100. it requires no irreversible modifications to the case. its design is similar in theory to the novibes commercial product, but it's designed to fit into the very tight space in the lian li v series 3.5" hard disk cage. th...

thanks for the great tips; keep them coming :) sorry to tease you all with the sorbothane thing. i don't have an exact idea of how i'm going to use it. once i receive the case, i will try to improvise something. i would like to leave the case intact, but if i can't figure out a better plan, i will r...
