Re: Which Case For A Silent (Or As Close As Possible) HTPC
First a few questions: Do you have any hardware you want to (re)use, i.e. a mainboard that limits the selection of the case? What hardware will you buy for your HTPC? What hard drive do you want to use? Would you be ok with a slim optical drive? What software will you run (Windows Media Center, MadV...

Re: Streacom Cases and > 200W Fanless PSU
Hello, the name for our fanless 250 Watt power supply in Flex format is called StreaFlex 250. We showed a working sample at Computex this year and we are currently finalizing it for production as well as Nano 180. They will both be available within the next 2 months. StreaFlex 250 is mainly being d...

Re: Streacom Cases and > 200W Fanless PSU
Welcome to SPCR! SPCR tested the Gigabyte H77N-Wifi drawing 114W from the wall with a PSU efficiency between 80% and 82% comes to 92W give ot take 1W. DVB tuner uses maybe 15W the HDD 10W and the optical drive another 10W. That comes to 130W peak load. Typical load probably in the 40W-65W range. Wit...

I I am torn between these the PC-V355 and the Xigmatek Gigas. I like the looks of both of them but I am bit afraid of the Aluminum. I used to have a HAF ATCS 840 and hated its noise and the vibrations. The Obsidian is really quiet compared to that. I am also afraid of the fact that the case will be...

The 400FL only has one 6/8 PCIe power connector and more powerful graphic cards need two. Seasonic makes an extra cable, but not even the german distributor knows about it much less can get it for you. That's why for my current setup (3570K/670GTX) I bought the 460FL, because it has two PCIe connec...

Re: Dumping Corsaur 55D for a micro ATX quite case...Possibl
By reading your post I assume that the Bitfenix cases are not for my case. What about the Lian-Li and the SG10? The Bitfenix mATX cases are too cramped for your system. The Lian Li V355 can work if you can squeeze the tower cooler next to the PSU. If it works it'll be very tight, if not you'll need...

The Bitfenix Prodigy M has the same layout as the Phenom but with room for an optical drive. If you look at the gallery you'll see that it's very cramped and even if you could fit a tripple slot graphic card, optical drive and soundcard, the graphic card would be starved for air and at least turn up...

Re: 750 watt power supply
Definitely something like a Seasonic P400FL2 would be better suited, and at least in Europe, noticeably cheaper (not to mention it should be a far better PSU than a Corsair RM 750, electrically). AMd will launch new graphic cards by October 8th. The 7970 will be rebadged to R9 280X and you can expect a small price drop when the new cards arrive. If you want a realy quiet computer an aftermarket cooler for a high end graphic card is a must. The Alpenföhn Peter is quite expensive, an Accellero...

Re: SilverStone SG07 vs CoolerMaster Elite 130
Neither one is really suitable for a passive PSU, because a passive PSu relies on the heat rising up.
Have you considered the Fractal Design Node 304. It works with a tall and slim CPU cooler and a passive PSU. Only downside is it doesn't fit an optical drive.

Re: Looking for advice on new build, fairly quiet
Your component selction seems like a good starting point.
First you need to identify the sources of noise in your PC.
What's bugging you more, hard drives, fan(s), ... ? If so which one?
When is it the loudest? When you load the CPU, the GPU, access the hard drives ... ?

Why a size restriction, when there is no case? You need a large surface area to dissipate the heat. My recommendations are the same as they were. NoFan CR95C without a fan or Thermalright Hr-02 Macho might work without a fan, but it comes with a silent one you can turn down to an inaudible level, if...

Re: TOTALLY fanless, caseless, wireless, pretty powerful & s
Why a XXXX S CPU is effectively useless: Let's compare the 4770S and the 4770. The K has a base clock of 3.1GHz and 3.9GHz boost for the CPU and 350-1250MHz for the GPU. The non-S has 3.5GHz and 3.9GHz boost, GPU is the same. The S has a TDP of 45W and a Tcase of 71°C the non-S of 72°C, let's call i...

XFX 550w or 650w No. XFX is the only brand I know that had not one but two samples of a PSU blow up in a test. I don't know if their quality control has improved, but it's the brand I would least recommend. One of these would be good: Seasonic G 550W, Seasonic X-650 or Kingwin 550W. CPU Intel Core ...

Re: Gaming desktop build for my daughter
Hmm, I'll need to remove the top HDD cage since the Gigabyte card is 292mm long and the R4 spec allows for 295mm (meaning I should remove the cage to ensure good airflow around the graphics card.) You can remove the top part of the HDD cage only, which leaves room for three drives like you planned....

Well... I was going to, but I never use Crossfire / SLI, don't intend to, and the wireless isn't the new 802.11ac spec. For now I would rather cheap out a bit and if I need wifi in the future, I'll get a wireless ac card. I guess the new SATA spec will be over PCIe, but since neither board is SATA ...
