Anyone with some custom heatpipes and a CNC milling machine? Someone enterprising could probably passively cool a lot of high end parts with those!

I agree. One post with links to the other two threads would have done just fine. I try not to do this, especially if the threads are not currently active.

I'm pretty sure my silver P180 didn't have any mention of a version or manufacture date (I looked hard!), but of the revisions listed, I only have: - fixed 3 ply door panel - additional silicone strips on the PSU bracket. I still got the VGA duct, 120x38 fan in the bottom, and no fan clips or vented...

Would getting some Nexus fans be quieter than using the stock 25mm TriCools? I don't have a fan controller, so they'd have to be running at their regular voltages... I take it the large hole in the side is for the intake?

I'm not sure what finish you have in mind for it, but I actually kind of like the way it looks already with its two tone colours. Good luck and keep us updated. :)

I believe you will have to do a little of both blocking and attenuation because computers have to have relatively large air inlets and outlets, and that's a bit different than trying to soundproof the solid walls of a building or room that is mostly sealed and air-tight from its surroundings. Any so...

I have no idea what this problem could be, but it sounds wierd enough to make me curious. Since touching it temporarily fixes it, I suppose it sounds like a bad connection or cold solder joint somewhere. I take it you've already checked for something like this, but I can't imagine it'd be easy to sp...

Hi, it's hard to judge how much gap you need to fill without actually seeing it, but I had always thought you were supposed to coat the sides of the heatsink with thermal grease? I believe the current P180's are shipping with revised doors so you won't have to replace them, and my own came this way. It also still included the VGA duct. Of course, I suppose it's possible that you could get an old one from some dusty corner in a computer shop. I don't know if PCI covers from o...

The "lever" is the large plastic piece that covers the side of the fan. The four tabs all latch towards the right side of the case so you have to pull...

Since you already have a good PSU, I would recommend the Antec SLK3000B. It was introduced after the SLK3700BQE model and looks very similar, but includes a side vent, CPU CAG, forward facing HD cages (for better airflow), and omits the PSU. I can get it for $60 Cdn, so it's probably under $50 in th...

Right now my three drives down there are running at 30c, 38c, and 35c. If I wanted to remove one of the fans from the top compartment, which should it be? The rear or the top? And should I also tape up the extra holes, or is that just redundant then? If I do this and the bottom compartment, I'd hav...

For the 80mm, I got the Panaflo brand. Made in Japan. It's loud! Not sure why... even @ 5v. It's louder than the 60mm NMB I mentioned above (@5v). The bearing sounds not smooth. Hi, welcome to SPCR. Hopefully someone else will chime in, but I do not think you can run this without the fan, and only rely on the fans nearby. The TriCool is getting close to as low as you can run it already, unfortunately. In previous discussions it has been speculated that the 3 speed switch attached to them is hooked up to a couple resistors, which in turn reduces the voltage going to the fan. Max speed (12v) for the TriCool is 2000 RPM...

Pardon my lack of knowledge but how does covering up the hole increase air flow around the HD and thus cool it? Doesnt this actually heat it up as the air doesnt have anywhere to go? For instance, the Dell system is probably very minimal, wi...
