Theres a good reason for it spinning at 100%, you don't want to stop it It does it because lowering the fan speed is done by lowering the voltage supplied to the fan. A lot of fans won't start at say 5V so they are started at 12V and then dropped to ensure they start everytime. If you want the chanc...

Sounds good....and costly! You can measure the temperature on your radeon with ati tool, works for my sapphire radeon 9800Pro but its got a radeon 9800XT core and PCB so could be different. I could move the spinpoint to the bottom of the case and suspend it there, i'll show you a pic of my suspended...

To be honest, its normally going to be either noisy or move air. The nexus is good because its quiet but still moves enough air at 12v. You'll find an article on spcr showing you how to make a 12v/5v switch, you could make one of these and put almost any fan on the end of it. It will give you the op...

I know what you mean by parallel but how would i wire that exactly?

When looking at this picture, would i just solder wires from both fans to the middle pins?

5V/12V Fan Switch with 2 Fans?

Hi,

I'm planning on following this guide to make a switch to put on the side of my desk to control the speed of my system fans.

The guide only shows how to do it with 1 fan.

Can i use the switch with 2 fans or would i need 2 switches?

Thanks
Ben

I'll probably be getting it in a week and a half. KustomPCs (UK) have said they'll order them when they need more cases from thermaltake which is likely to be a week or so

Don't think theres a chance of that working. The 9800Pro is a fairly warm running card.

You can have passive cooling but with a much bigger chunk of metal. I'm just about to get a passive cooler on mine (Rather than Arctic cooler - loud). I'm going to get the thermaltake Schooner, take a look ;)

Not going to work unless i drill a massive hole in the card ;)

The heatpipes come out from under the card so they can only be bent down. I've heard that the fins on the outside actually get warm so they're good outside the case

CPU - AMD 64 of any speed you want, obviously lower speed means lower heat output meaning less fans needed. CPU Cooler - Fanless would be great, have a look at the coolermaster tower model and the ninja (Can't remember the name) which has about 12 heatpipes PSU - Seasonic S12 430W Graphics - Radeon ...

Can't really comment on anything but your last idea. I would have though that anything going through an ethernet port was cached on the hard drive. Could be wrong but thats what i guess. This means that you'd still only get the speed of your main system hard drive. Anyway, good luck with saving the ...

Aleksi, that wouldn't work because the heatpipes are only long enough to go as far as the pic shows. I did see a cooler somewhere that comes out of the back and has a massive row of fins extending all the way from the second pci slot to the path of the case fan. Not released yet though Thanks again ...

Looking at that Toms Hardware roundup, it looks like the 9800Pro comes somewhere between the 6600 and the 6600GT. 9800Pro almost always beating the 6600 and 6600GT beating the 9800Pro by often a little bit but sometimes a fair bit. Just had a look at UK prices and the 6800GT is going to cost you a f...

Depends how much of an improvment you want. If you want a decent improvment then you'll want to look at a video card better than the 6600GT. The 6600 is about the same performance wise as the Radeon 9800Pro. You should have a look at the 6800GT But, if you can get an AMD64 3000+, decent motherboard ...
