I noticed that when I used this software it disturbed the mp3 player, the sound disappeared for a fraction of a second. I think it happened sometimes (but not always) when it switched speed. If you're folding, you'll never enter CnQ and thus never miss a beat so to speak. One thing that I would lik...

It is probably the ball bearings in the fan?

Mine used to do it a little, but after breaking it in a few weeks I haven't noticed it again. Mine too is running about 1000rpm, which appears to be its minimum speed.

You have no choice in the matter. One of the 12V lines is dedicated to the 4-pin "CPU" connector. The other 12V line goes to everything else, including ATX connector, all 4-pin molexes, etc. That is per the ATX 12V 2.0 specification.

The leading candidates for a 6800GT are the Zalman VF700 and the Artic Cooling VGA Silencer NV5. Anything would be quieter than what is likely on your BFG.

I'm happy with my VF700 on an eVGA card.

Here is my NB47J installation with a 6800GT above it. I used needle-nosed pliers to bend and wire cutters to cut the fins. It isn't difficult. There are other similar postings. If you search for "NB47J" you should find them. You could put an unmodified NB47J on the chipset and put your VGA in the b...

You likely won't like the active HSF on the nF4 chip, but something like a Zalman NB47J is a possibility, either with some bending/trimming of fins for a VGA above it or putting your VGA in the other slot (moving SLI jumpers to SLI, even on Ultra board). An X800XL or 6800GT will likely be loud. If y...

I have a few of the PCTek D12SM-12s. You can certainly adjust the RPMs with voltage (or PWM), but there is no RPM sensing. These fans have just two wires.

The problem is that there is no objective measurement of temperatures by the chips or by the motherboards. Only thing I would not as a deal killer on the SLK 3000 is it puts the top of the motherboard very close to the power supply so you do have to be careful with mobos mounting the cpu up top and big heatsinks not fitting. The DFI has a tighter approach and they allow a better overclock with 1T, but it's a nightmare when it comes to quieting the chipset cooler. My guess on the noise is that it is the noises from the two hard drives "beating" against eachother. If you try to run with one drive off, does it sound different?

If so, a softer mounting (e.g., sorbothane or suspension) would likely knock it out.
