IMHO, i think people who have reported problems with running fans at 7V, have probably gone wrong somewhere else and blamed it on the 7V fan mod - either that or jus got the mod wrong  Regarding B) try www.fanbus.com or www.7volts.com Jus go for a panaflo instead of papst, the difference isnt ...

You're right, you dont see it much - pretty much its only Alpha HSs which perform better with the fan sucking air off it, (because of the shroud they use?). Also if you experiment you will see that turbulence noise is much greater when there is an obstacle on the input side of the fan. Just try it b...

Think you misunderstood somewhere... I think the thermal resistance you are talking about is how they measure heatsink performance. Its measured in K/W (Kelvins per Watt - kelvins same as degrees celcius). It measures the rise in heat in your heatsink for each Watt off thermal energy put into it. Ie...

Also it says it doesnt have a fan monitoring wire, so does that mean the fan spins at full 12v all the time? Nah, jus means you cant monitor the RPM via a motherboard fan connector. The heatsinks in that PSU dont appear to be very good - heatsinks in my Q-Tech psu are much larger... Other than that...

Re: why don't PSUs do this...
I've been thinking that a PSU shpould come with a Li-ion battery that it charges up for the first few mins, then shuts itself down before it gets too hot and then back on when the cell is almost drained, having had time to cool down again. Charging batteries is far from efficient, and would create ...

Yeah, it is a good idea. The trouble is how many different setups are there? If you think about how many different cases there are, and then mobos can have the CPU in different positions, and there are different height heatsinks, it makes it very difficult to manufacture something that will work pro...

This isnt a good idea because fridges are designed to cool items which do NOT produce heat. Ie it normally cools them down, then relies on the insulation to keep them cool. But, if something in the fridge is actually continuously producing heat, the fridge's compressor will be running continuously c...

I suspect you will need to do more than just a new case and PSU? What CPU hs, gfx card, HDs, case fans do you have?
As for case and PSU, i would recommend an Antec 1040 (same as chieftec dragon) and Nexus PSU.

Yep, WMPTBDS is right, you will need some airflow in there. Panaflo L1as at 5 or 7V are very quiet anyway, in a dorm environment you would probably never hear them. 1 on the CPU, 1 as an exhaust, maybe 2. You wont need to grommet the drive mounts if you use a NoVibes... Underclocking would certainly...

The one at heatsink guide varies the voltage continuously from startup to max voltage.clamrade wrote:Does this controller (the simpler one described at heatsink-guide) vary the speed between starting and max, or is it a simple on-off? It wasn't clear to me from the description.
Thanks.
