Re: how to buy a car

Why do you want to buy a new car at all? The "cheapest car on the market" is certainly not a new model on a dealer's lot. There are few good arguments for buying new. After spending way too much money on cars as a teenager, I've settled on this principle: buy the cheapest safe car you can find. Safe...

Re: FS: 8800GT w/Accelero heatsink - $40 shipped

My suggestion: Sell the Accelero cooler and recycle the 8800GT. It's lived a full life. You can get a passive HD 6570 for $45, similar performance, it uses 30W less power at idle and 50W less at load. Next year, even Intel's iGP will outperform the 8800GT. A full life indeed. I'm hoping the 660ti g...

Re: Samsung low-profile 1.35V 4GB DDR3 sticks, $14.44 @ Newe

In case anyone doesn't already know, Newegg's free "Egg Saver" shipping can be a royal pain. I bought a pair of these, and in my case they are coming to me via DHL Global Mail who hands off to US Postal Service for final delivery. I assumed this is how they would ship so I had them shipped to my hom...

FS: Accelero S1 Rev 2 heatsink - $16 shipped, OBO

** Nov 1 2012 EDIT: Offering Accelero heatsink by itself. Originally, I was trying to sell this attached to my trusty old 8800gt. Better wisdom advised that I try to sell the HS by itself, thus the edit. Accelero S1 Rev 2. It's a classic. Asking $16 shipped to you in the lower 48, assuming UPS/FedEx...

Re: Seeking input on shopping cart

Thanks for all the replies. Although they cost a bit more, you would be better of considering the MSI GD series, such as the GD45 if you intend to overclock. The MSI Z77 GD boards have better quality power supply components, so they are a better bet for overclocking and are more power efficient than...

Seeking input on shopping cart

Looking to bring my gaming PC out of the dark ages - moving from core2 to Ivy Bridge. Right now, I am looking at the core components: CPU, MB, RAM. Target principles: high-value / bang-for-buck and durability. Low-power consumption is not a major concern for this system. This is in my Newegg cart: I...

Re: America: Y ur internets so uncompetitive?

Just to clarify things, which monthly fee are we talking about? How much for the phoneless options among which you can choose (24/2 and 50/5)? Phoneless ADSL options: 768k/384k = $30/mo 1.5M/384k = $38/mo 3.0M/512k = $43/mo 6.0M/768k = $48/mo (I have the POTS subsidized version of this service - I ...

Re: America: Y ur internets so uncompetitive?

It would probably be better to completely deregulate the industry and not force private companies to serve rural areas, and then remove the tax on everyone else to pay into the USF. Are private ISPs forced to serve rural areas? It may differ by location. My experience is limited, but my parents and...

Attempts may have failed in your locale but they have worked elsewhere. Generally, the reason why private ownership is the rule and that most successful attempts have been abandonned is that politicians like to sell off publically-owned stuff, to please their cronies or because they're ideologicall...

If infrastructure duplication is not be allowed, or made cost-prohibitive, there would be no technological innovation because it would be too expensive to compete with government subsidized/regulated infrastructure. Re: America: Y ur internets so uncompetitive?

In any given market there's only one provider of a cable or DSL system. Obviously, you can't have competition with respect to these, for it would mean duplication of the infrastructure. So these providers are monopolies, and unregulated ones at that. And, no, they aren't in competition with satelli...

I assume that you live in the "Styx" to have such a bad selection of choices with lame speeds I live in a metro area with over 1.7million people. I can buy 24/2 from AT&T, and 50/5 through TWC. I choose 5Mb because it satisfies home needs and I was sort of grandfathered in at a very reduced price. ...

America: Y ur internets so uncompetitive?

I have enjoyed stable and adequately fast (5Mb down) ADSL from AT&T for many years. It has been reasonably affordable paired with (and subsidized slightly by) my POTS home phone service. Check that you're on latest firmware (v2.0.5.3, May 2012). The first Newegg review reports the following: Cons: Supplied firmware has issues, lockups, and dropouts. Does not work well in bridge mode with current firmware. Other Thoughts: Cisco confirmed issue. Solution was to install version 2.0.2.3...

Retail availability is another story. Regarding Intel's DH61AG, I notice...
