New ATI X1800 series heat level (power draw)

Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody has seen anything regarding the heat level of the X1800 cards vs. the 7800 cards from nVidia. It seems like the heat output from the 7800GT is pretty reasonable. I am kind of an ATI fan and would lean towards buying an X1800XL if it were the same price....but I w...

you need an A64 backplate for the motherboard because the retention mechanism Asrock uses just has plastic clips or something. usually there is a backplate that provides two threaded insterts to screw into. Zalman includes backplates with their heatsinks but a lot of other companies don't. find some...

pick up an antec phantom 500 watt. the fan only kicks in when needed and it should be pretty darn stable for overclocking.

that would probably be getting tight while playing games. obviously you couldn't overclock the A64 or GPU at all. maybe if you undervolted the CPU a bit.... I would think you would want to add a stronger pump and a passive heatercore.....but then you start to loose all your convenience. Maybe just s...

I always buy Abit.....I hear a lot of people complain about bios problems, but it always seems like overclocker nit picks to me. I have never had any problems with them so I coninue to buy them. I like my most recent purchase the AN8-Ultra with heat pipe quite a bit. I have a Venice 3000+ overclock...

The AN8-Ultra is a quality board, I say go for it and you will have a quiet stable board that is worst case scenario 200 MHZ less of a CPU overclock than the DFI.

New ATI chipset looks promising for silent S939 systems

I think this may be my next Athlon64 motherboard purchase since it is completely passive without the neat for heatpipes.

I was going to buy another Abit AN8-Ultra for myself....but now....

I think the rest of your stuff would have to be REALLY quiet to be able to hear a fully undervolted nexus 120 inside the case.

You could always use a smaller fan on the XP120 as well if you want....not sure if it would require some creative mounting though....

if you are going to overclock maybe get 120

if you are super anal about noise and want to get as low RPM as possible maybe get 120

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=277 Both zipzoomfly and the Abit page say the the V2.0 has SATA2 at 300Gb/s I guess I don't really care if it's SATAII or SATA since I'm not doing RAID and no single drive can put out even SATA data rates. I went ahead and ordered t...

If this question is off topic just ignore it, but could somebody explain the best way to make a backup of a boot OS to a different HDD so that if it's lost it can be restored? Would you just use something like Norton Ghost?

not sure how it works but if you mirrored it with say a quiet 2.5" drive....would your writes slow down the speed of the 2.5" drive? I don't think that the mirror gets updated during idle processes....but I don't really know. Although I guess if your reads are at the speed of the RAM drive then it w...

Project, yeah that is what I'm hoping for.....otherwise all the people posting about RAM drives would be right.

I want this product because it's bootable and I won't have to leave my computer on. If it can't do that then it fits into a pretty small niche.

Is my guess right, the reason for using the pci is to charge the battery on the card. Thanks The battery could just as easily charge from a four pin molex though. If there is power available to the PCI slot when the computer is shut down but the power supply is still on, then they could use this to...

I wonder if the battery backup is only for when your computer isn't plugged in to the wall.....otherwise why would you bother having it in the form of a PCI card when it communicates via SATA?

This motherboard looks good. Even if the silent OTES sucks the northbridge is at least far enough away from the vidcard that you can put a decent heatsink on it.
