Perhaps you should try going back to the original cooler then?
Maybe it just works better in your system.

I'd have a hard time believing that this system could be cheaper or much more efficient than the heatpipe coolers in notebooks today. The developers must be banking on the continued rise of CPU heat. (I bet they're not fans of the P-M's Laughing ) It would be more efficient because the fluid would ...

You might try the diode trick, its described at the bottom of this page:
http://www.cpemma.co.uk/7volt.html
That'll get em spinning at full voltage but drop down to a operational voltage of 6V or so

I agree with Steve, though since you've already got yours set up, you can see whether temps and noise are acceptable for you. I don't know about whether the magnetic field will slow the drive, but supposedly suspension will- someone posted a white paper about this a while back. The conclusion was th...

Well, i think it'll be fine if you can make sure that your new brick outputs the right voltage/has sufficient wattage and such. I mixed up the bricks for my router and my dsl modem while i was moving stuff around-fortunately they were the same voltage, so I just held my breath and plugged em in...th...

Baker asks the question about whether this is a new phenomenon because many fans can run at a voltage lower than the necessary startup voltage, so it may be a feature intended to make the operating sound level lower than if it was not thermally controlled. That said, you probably want comments from ...

This website is pretty cool. Its kind of over the top with its formatting though. The lead isn't as impractical weightwise as you'd think, its a lb per sq. ft. But, i'm not sure it'll be a huge improvement over steel panels since its intended to block sound and not absorb. The soundproofing liquid (...

Increasing height would take advantage of a different effect, pressure differences at different heights. Higher up, there is less pressure. I believe that some of the cliff dwellings at Pueblo were cooled by this effect, relatively tall buildings with openings at the top and bottom. But still one sh...

Well, one thing to keep in mind before you change the fan is that your bios is almost certainly not reporting a true temperature- there are several articles about this and how you can calibrate your diodes. What I mean is that mobo manufacturers permit such large uncertainties that you probably shou...

Aluminum to air
I'm fairly sure that the "aluminum is better than copper for heat transfer to air" thing is a myth. Aluminum is cheaper, lighter, easier to process/manufacture heatsinks from it. Because its lighter heatsinks with higher surface area can be made. But copper has higher thermal conductivity over an ar...

Cool packs
The reason for using a cool pack is actually to take advantage of vibration absorbing properties of the gel within it. Its understood that gel packs do not transfer heat particularly efficiently, however, they are soft, squishy, and easily available.

A few tricks that ppl mentioend on forums
SOmeone one the forums mentioned oiling old fans to make them quieter. You could also try using an undervolt on the fan, like with a fanmate or DIY soln. Also, you could try rigging up something to let you run a larger fan you already have on top :) maybe duct tape...as long as the temperatures are ...

Or, if by coolpacks you mean those gel things that you stick in a freezer and then use in the place of ice, well i have no idea where to get those in the UK specifically but a retailer with like everyday kitchen supplies should do it.

Do we have a sticky about recommended car radiators/heatercores?
