LAN over Electricity Wires

Edit by mod: Scroll down to a later post (with pictures) for the full review; this thread didn't orginally start out as a review. Hi all, I got a test package of a Devolo MicroLink dLAN ethernet set from a friend yesterday. Set it up this morning. Basically, its LAN over the home electricity wires ...

Hi CoreFusion, if you are uncertain about the XP-120 fit, go for the SI-120. It has very little compatibility issues, if at all (I haven't come across any), and cools as well as the XP-120 if not a touch better (depends on the reviews you read). Price point is similar. I have the Papst 4412F/2GLL mo...

I am not sure that I follow that on hand the picture you posted. Obviou...

It appears to be a gamers dream, so then most likely not designed and/or marketed towards the silent community. I woul...

The 10 point DBa difference may be attributed to the fact that the fins of the HR-01 appear to be a bit wider apart then on the SI-120 allowing for less air resistance and thereby less noise in the non-passive mode. I have a SI-120 with that same Papst fan as in the Hartware test at 5V and don't hea...

@wainwra: To that I can add this: Slowly the silent bug will affect you. At first your newly born quiet case will satisfy you. Slowly though, the noise will creep into your thought. Soon the quietest fan will be loud and the madness will infect you. Context is here - which is btw due for an update.....

3. Currently, the Nexus fan is controlled by the T-balancer, which maintains the fan 500 RPM's during idle, and is programmed to increase in speed up to maximum when it senses a rise in temperature of the CPU and GPU. At 500 RPM's, I can't hear the PSU fan from my normal working position. The case ...

This particular 92mm Papst fan does not have RPM monitoring. You need the 3412 N/2GL for that - has the same specs, but a different price

This site has a good overview of Papst 92mm fans. It's in German, but you should be able to make your way through the specs. Can't help you with PWM.

Olive oil ?

I heard something wierd yesterday - thought it was worth sharing. I met a guy who told me he essentially submerged his PC in a fish tank filled with olive oil. He removed all movable parts (fans). The DVD R/W player is extended out side the tank. Apparently the HDD is hermetically sealed so there is...

Hey, thanks for that data. I may try out the duct then too. (I assume that the "no duct" measurements still had the holes open at the duct mount?)

How close to the fan does your duct reach?

Yes, the CPU duct lines up nicely. I would guess that the majority of SPCR members who own a 3000B are using an AMD 64 CPU. Just to pitch the SI-120 once more - it sits up higher over the MB and doesn't have fins welded down on the base. It's true that the fins are closer together than the Ninja, but my feeling (only a feeling) is that there is less turbulance with the SI-120 than the XP-120. The air can flow freeer (wha...

I have a SI-120 with a Papst 4412 F/2GLL at 5V on it in a SLK3000B. That's even higher than the XP-120. I have the holes open on the side, but the duct is removed. I don't even hear a whisper from that fan at 5V through the side, and cool air is definitely being sucked in.
