Here's a link to a 3.5" fanbus Since you drill out the holes in a spare drive cover, this would match perfectly. :D Since your case only has one 3.5 bay, I'd recommend using one of your 5.25 bays instead. Unless you plan on not installing a floppy. Enermax also makes beige fanbus's (Newegg search fo...

Oh Man your mods are SWEET! :D I have got to get me one of these for my next project! KatanaMan, where did you source your c-strip molding? I've got some but it's chunky plastic, yours looks like thin rubber. I need some more. Your 'moddersmesh' front grill looks nice too. Maybe if you 'color-keyed'...

The only problem with grommet mounting a PSU is that because of the weight, the screws may just pull right through the grommets. Unless of course your case has a ledge or bar to support the weight of the PSU (suitably damped of course!).

Since it'll be a headless server, why not just lock it in the garage or cellar? Or maybe a ventilated closet? Hell, even the backyard shed!

That way, you wouldn't need to worry about quietness.

Sounds like a good plan. I've never replaced a printer fan but they might have a different connector. You might have to clip the wire leads and solder the new fan inplace.
The latest batch of 92mm NMB fans I got from directron ($0.39) were thermistor controlled.

Does this thing come with a removable hard drive cage (placed in front of the intake fan)? It doesn't show in the product pictures at newegg. That is a big must-have for me. I need to have my hard drives in front of my intake fan. You should check out this thread. This Chenbro case would be complet...

Re: So how come?

For a long time I thought the only way to get a quiet pc was to get a notebook. Of course it has it's drawbacks. After being here something else occurred to me, why doesn't anybody make motherboards that would accept Intel mobile line of processors? They use a lot less power so there's less heat to...

Maybe the increased heat buildup was enough to toast the drive bearings?

Your temp diode probably isn't anywhere near the drive motor/bearings so it wouldn't have detected the heat. Also, 'heat-soak' is my bet for being responsible.

One way that's quick and simple to discharge a PSU is to unplug the PSU from the wall socket wait a moment, then hit your power button. The grommets won't help (much) with the motor whine itself. What the grommets are good at is keeping the case from amplifying the motor whine or vibrational noise. That's why decoupling your hard drive has an apparent noise reduction. They remove the noise amplification inherent in all PC cases. As ...
