You can do this with NiBitor for nVidia cards. It didn't work on my 7900GTO/GTX, but i can't get automatic fan control for it in rivatuner either. After flashing it to GTX i could at least get rivatuner to run it at 25% at boot-up, but i still need to manually set it higher if im going to game. In ...

Yeah, the open PSU was fun. I accidentally touched the heatsinks on it a couple times which had no effect, but once I accidentally touched both a heatsink and the case at the same time which must have completed a circuit because I got quite a buzz. I learned real quick not to leave it plugg...

I've built one system in this case and also had a friend go the same route with his AM2 build, it's a great case. Since I don't think I saw it mentioned I would like to point out that the fans are also soft-mounted. And although it's a pain to get fan in the HD cage it is possible to swap out the fa...

On silent it runs my S-Flex 21E at full whack on the CPU when its perfectly cool. The CPU pin is a 4 pin version and I have a non PWM fan on it, so perhaps thats the issue. By default plugging a non PWM fan into a PWM fan header will result in the fan running at a constant max speed. I think Asus b...

I would think there would be an option to set the target CPU temp in the BIOS. Still I don't think there is a problem with 60C as long as Q-Fan keeps the CPU at or around that level. As far as SpeedFan is concerned you have to set it up to control your fans, simply clicking "Automatic fan speed" won...

All three would certainly work but the Thermalright would not be a good choice from a sound perspective.

The TMD fan used is not at all quiet and the densely packed fins do not lend them self well to low noise/CFM cooling.

Re: Help with older CPU heatsink choice

I recently re-built a Duron 1.0GHZ that runs passively with a Zalman3100Cu (a smaller version of the CNSP-6xxx series). Of course the case was a Lian Li PC-A05 which places a 120mm fan (Yate Loon in this case) directly in line with the CPU HS/F so if your air flow situation is less passive may not b...

This might be a bit too late for the OP but anyone else with a Zalman 7000 may find it useful to know you can purchase the 92mm PWM fan from the Zalman 9500AT as a replacement part.

For that price I might just pick up an extra for use down the road. About Arctic Silver; it's not conductive but it is pain to clean up so I would recomm...

You’re completely over analyzing the situation. Heatpipes are generally a good feature and shouldn't be removed unless you have a very good reason. Even if you have a large tower heatsink that doesn’t provide any direct air flow to the VRM components there still tends to be more air flow in that...

Ok, from Tephras's links the x1950 Pro is at 66 watts under load. Thats significantly more then the x1800GTO and my x800GTO both of which are around 48 watts. 66 watts may be too much for the Zalman to run on it's own but I would think the optional fan would be enough to keep it plenty cool consider...

Re: Bad Axe 2 fan control questions

I'd be interested in knowing about the fan control myself... Does this mean that short of a fan-mate or other similar controller that the processor fan can only run at full speed? I would assume so... can you change the fan on the heatsink? Or go with another HS/F altogether? The Zalman CNPS-9500AT ...

If this was a 4-pin PWM fan I could see this being a good choice for a CPU fan for it's increased reliability and quality vs. sleeve bearing fans.

For case fans I don't have a problem with sleeve bearings and the Yate Loons are much easier to get down to quiet levels.

It's really hard to say whats happening, especially since you are running a full screen benchmark, thereby not allowing you monitor temps. I would stop messing around with 3D Mark and run ATI Tool artifact test and keep a close eye on the temps. The ZM-80D has a lot of mass so even without any air f...
