Re: Video editing workstation

bonestonne, It's not a decoder, converter or ripper. It's a playback engine component that's currently supported by a few HTPC programs. What professional standards are you talking about? 10-bit output, 16-bit internal precision, linear-light processing, full color management with 274,625 point 3DLU...

Good point. Also try to set max the volume at the sound card, this raises the signal-to-nosie ratio.

Re: static/crackle/coil whine/interference problem

It's not unusual for this type of interference to be picked up by sound card circuitry, especially with onboard audio. You're speakers are merely amplifying what's being fed into them. I'd suggest a higher quality sound card. EDIT: Have you started using any 3G equipment(routers, phones) around your...

Re: Video editing workstation

As far as MadVR goes, it's just a decoder for playback. Yes, it's GPU assisted, but it's not really related to video editing unless you're using some special codecs. So, more importantly, is this machine for HTPC work, or is it for video editing? There's a big difference. No, it's definitely not a ...

Re: What are good alternatives to HD7770 ?

Installed the XFX double fan today, turning the fans down to 700-800rpm in Speedfan makes them "disappear". Neat. I tried running furmark and got a bit scared at the temps, though running Heaven and 3Dmark I get max 90 degrees. High side of safe I guess. I'm surprised Chrome is a lot snappier than w...

Re: What are good alternatives to HD7770 ?

I'm forced to go AMD due to an essential feature related to wide-gamut displays. Do I understand correctly that any HD7770/250x can be controlled in Afterburner or Speedfan? Or do only specific models support this like the XFX? I've also seen favorable mentions of Asus and MSI.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but FWIW I was able to solve the problem described by OP by running two instances of Speedfan.

Re: Good PSU of yesteryear?

I've decided I'll donate my VX450 to my parents PC and get a modular replacement for my own PC. For a replacement I'm looking at the Antec High Current Gamer 520, based on price avaliablity and this nice looking fan graph: http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/cases/psu-400w-520w/gr42.png Should be awesome...

I complied a list of Seasonic OEMs with 120mm or larger fans. Could perhaps take further pruning of units based on older platforms and ridiculously high power ratings. Re: Good PSU of yesteryear?

Sounds reasonable to buy a new unit, total price would probably be the same after a fan swap on a used unit. Still I don't like the rpms reported, makes my previous silencing efforts moot(used to be my old system). I have a spare 1900rpm S-Flex and right now I can get a a Corsair VX450 and Seasonic ...

I looked through used PSUs on eBay a there were mostly FSP's between 250-350W in my desried price range with a 120mm fan. Am I a fool to disregard PSUs with 80mm fans?

Good PSU of yesteryear?

I'm in the market for a used ATX PSU to replace a noisy mATX one in my parents s775 system. Perferably one that uses a 120mm fan and takes well to fan swaps. I've heard about some FSP units being prone to failures, what are some reputable brands/series?

Re: Reconciling soft-mounting and fan grills?

Hi, I just realised what you're asking. Yes it works easily, use the short/case side of the soft screw through the grill and case so the grill is held tight to the case and the long fan side just in the fan as normal. There will be a spacer on the screw between the fan and case that ensures the sof...

Happy new year, everyone! Some further musings about lower-in-the-drive bay/further-away-from-the-ear vs. obstructed-intake-fan balance. Hardmounted HDD noise and intake airflow

I've been thinking lately about how the placement of two HDDs in my Define R3 affect overall noise and airflow. At a basic level, Placing HDDs lower in ther drive bay places the noise farther from the ear but restricts the airflow from the front case fan. Where the "sweet spot" might lie could be ra...

Still leaning toward the Slipstream 1200rpm model since it's a proven silent performer. Anyone wanna tell me more about the implications of non-horizontal mounting for this fan?
