What's your chosen mobo? I'd make sure to get a 2 oz copper PCB board for the Silver Arrow. I think Luca is right about using low voltage ram. Otherwise it looks like a sweet build.
EDIT:Saw you were going with Asus Maximus IV now. Probably the best choice for what you want.

Re: Antec 280 OMG!
The only disadvantage I see for the P280 over Define R3 are the open top vents. Fractal include their ModuVents: http://www.tweak.dk/images/2010/review/1141/tweak_dk_fractal_design_refiner2_27.JPG Anyone have an idea how one would hack together something similar? If prices are any cheaper and you wont use dual SLI consider Gigbayte UD4 to be a solid alternative to Asus for the mobo.

I have the 3TB WD GP and its not whisper quiet like my 1.5TB(same acoustics as the 2TB). Right now the 2TB WD GP and Hitachi 5K3000 2TB are the only large capacity drives that are up to SPCR standards.

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
Already jonesing for Noctua C14 though. Noctua C14, well maybe. The hot ticket right now seems to be the Thermalright HR-02 Macho, which my local dealer has for about two-thirds of the price of the C14. Yeah, it's not value champ. I used a TR SI-120 for my s478 and s775 systems so I might be a bit ...

For your consideration, Asus and Gigabyte use 2oz copper PCB compared to standard 1oz which is good news for those nice heatsinks that approach 1 kilogram. Gigabyte uses cooler running Driver-Mosfets for for the voltage regulator circuit. Might bring some small advantage in a standard ATX case with ...

Re: Corsair VX 450W - Is this noise normal?
Turns out only C1E and higher C states caused the chirping noises. SpeedStep/EIST can still be active for an excellent power consumption reduction at light loads. I achieved this by disbling C-states in BIOS and running ThrottleStop with the following options:

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
Sorry guys turns out it's normal for Prime95 in-place mode to vary the temperature, the same applies for Blend mode. IntelBurnTest(same as LinX basicaly) really heats up the processor, reaching 78C max in standard mode with the stock cooler at (constant)1200rpm and a Nexus 120mm at 700rpm for side i...

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
I think that you have just to do what HFat already suggested (providing that I have well understood him): disable any fan control and run the fans at 100%, disable any power saving feature in BIOS, then run your tests. Use the specific OCCT PSU test in order to check voltage stability (see the resu...

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
I could see the concern for temp readings accuracy for a previous generation processor, but for Sandy Bridge? Or could the board be messing those up? I don't have suitable equipment to measure the heatsink temps.

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
Didn't except different result but I have one less thing to rule out with certainty now. Klusu, What could we learn by measuring HS temp and power draw? On a diffident note, could the PSU have a part in the temp rise by feeding off-voltages to the board? EDIT: Damn, wish I payed attention this graph...

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
It's been connected to the 3-pin header since day one, I discovered the fan could spin at ~800rpm minimum compared to ~1000rpm minimum from the 4-pin header. It stays at constant ~1500rpm IIRC after a few minutes of Prime95. Nevertheless I'll see if anything changes when my True Rev. C arrives and h...

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
You know, the more I look at your graphs, the more I think the PWM settings are wonky. The Prime95 graphs show the temperature spiking, then drooping. Mine do NOT do that, and I've never seen that on any of my machines, ever. P95 always causes that curving ramp up until it hits a zone of a few degr...

The stock cooler is adequate but that's it. The fan has an irregular tonal quality even when spinned down so I'd recommend replacing it, personally.

Re: Unexplainable tempurature rise from 2500k
When run with default settings, most variants of Prime95 (eg, OCCT) alternate between small and large FFTs. Small FFTs generally fit in the CPU cache and run hotter. Large FFTs thrash the cache, so the CPU cores spend more time waiting on memory fetches. What specific Asrock board do you have? Do y...

Ran another Prime95 sesson and kept an eye on the multiplier in Realtemp as well as Intels monitoring utility suggested by lodestar. Stays at x34 throughout. Baseclock stays at a stable 99.78MHz after a minute or two of Prime95. As expected, sadly (would have been a pleasant surprise if not).

I still have the old Sonata I which came with stiffer black rubber grommets. AFAICT The Sonata III came with the same white soft rubber grommets and longer screws like the Solo/P150 but otherwise unchanged trays. If you have Sonata I/II trays Antec has the newer white grommets as a separate part. Wi...

Hard mounted HDDs in Fractal Define R3/R2
Today I re-arranged my room and found the hard drives more audible than before. It's a type of constant low frequency noise as well as a low thud during seeks. If you read the review by Lawrence Lee he hints at the HDD trays having a resemblance to Antec side mounted trays. I discovered it was not o...

Good to know. I'll give the push-pull config a try and report back. As you can see from my sig. I've already indulged in some OC'ing, mostly for fun though. Re: Corsair VX 450W - Is this noise normal?
I was plagued by the same chirpy cricketey noise. I had to play with C1E, Speedstep and Thermal Monitor settings in BIOS to get rid of it on my VX450. Yours seems awful loud though but maybe the microphone is more sensitive to high frequencies. If the BIOS settings doesnt help consider an RMA, Corsi...
