I use some funky combination of 2, 5/6, and 1. The only fan that runs 24/7 is the 120mm in the PS. It is manually controlled via a fanmate and I use the temp of my HDD to determine the appropriate speed. The only other fan in the system is on the CPU, and is off 90% of the time (controlled by the BI...

Anyone venture to guess how this will work with the lower profile mobile A64 CPUs?

0.98kg - nice

I like that they took their design to it's ultimate (120mm) conclusion...but since the fan is included and not replaceable, they've taken on a much higher level of responsability WRT silence. All the other mfgr's have to do is design a neat-looking chunk of copper.

Nah, I ended up drilling through the case. I forgot that the Antec P160 has a removeable motherboard tray and that all drives are on rails. As soon as I decided to mod the powersupply, that meant everything would be out of the chassis anyway. I was thinking of just attaching a Zalman heatpipe cooler...

For the record, this project took literally under $5 worth of parts and no more than 30 minutes.

Acoustipack Deluxe is in my future. This is a big case, though; I'm wondering if I'll need to kits...

Actually, the fan is in blow mode (pushing air down onto the HS). Although honestly for my application I doubt it matters. I have the fan set to turn on @ 50C using 4V and scaling to 12V @ 60C. The temp of the CPU averages 35C (no fan) and has never exceeded 50C even under CPU Burn. I've never heard...

Here's a bit on mine You can't see the PS very well, but the Vantec Stealth fan isn't. That is the only source of noise in my system. Right now my biggest concern is that the NB runs at 60-75C and the video card is at 50-60C. Everything else is under control. I'd put a large heatsink on the NB, but...

My current system is an A64 running a much less modified Single-fan configuration. It has a second fan on the CPU, but this only kicks on if the system is at full load for and extended period. Everything is running great, just looking for a fan quieter than the Vantec Stealth that's currently in the...

Thanks guys. The reason I specified 60W is that I already have one from a dismantled MiniITX box bought at Fry's real cheap forever and a day ago. WRT purchasing a new PS: I guess the choice really is between a 120W external brick and a SS Super Tornado Rev. A3 modded if necissary. The reason to go ...

If you're worried about folding, why not drop some more pure CPU horsepower into the machine? Ive built a number of low-end machines that are low-end in every respect but CPU.

Don't know why I'm telling you this, considering I'm folding for another team

Thanks for the replies so far. Instead of bolting through the case, is there a really good epoxy out there that will bond steel eyelets to aluminium? If so, this would probably give a more solid attachment (removing vibration) while at the same time increasing the surface area of the aluminium that ...

Strange hard drive mounting proposition...

By reading the wonderful articles and threads here for the last few months, my system has gotten closer and closer to silent. The only source of noise now is a single 160GB Samsung SATA drive. 90% of this noise is resonnance, and I've come to the conclusion that suspension will suffice in resolving ...

After playing with it for a while, and looking at my typical usage, I've decided on the following:

800Mhz @ 0.8V
1Ghz@ 0.85V
1.6Ghz @ 1.1V

I don't really understand the negatives (if any) to switching between speeds more quickly; so I changed all the times to 200ms. We'll see how this does.

This works great! The only issue I have with the program is that it doesn't minimise to the taskbar properly, and doesn't execute at startup with the "multiplyer management" enabled by defualt.

My other complaint is that I can't go below 0.8V, but I think that is a limitation elsewhere.

I've been playing with version 3.5.18.194 on my laptop while running around to clients. My laptop has a mobile AMD Athlon XP-M (LV) 1600+ so it ins't functional, but I see what you mean. I'll check it out when I get home.

nevermind, found CrystalCPUID 3.9.7.208RC2

But all it's doing is displaying information? I thought it was supposed to change things?

I've been playing with ClockGen; seems to be working OK. 800Mhz @ 0.8V with the CPU fan stopped.

I'll give it a shot, but I can't find the version you referenced in your OP.

My current relevant system specs are as follows:

ASUS K8N-E Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 Mobile (2700+, 35W)
