I'd thought about the 330W version but I'd like to leave a load of headroom as I intend to keep the PSU as long as possible, so it will hopefully see several system upgrades. Anyway, it should be getting ordered soon, along with a CoolerMaster Centurion 590. I'd originally planned on an Antec 300 (h...

I'm leaning towards the Seasonic S12II-380, as I've googled about a bit and the general consensus seems to be that the Seasonic is slightly quieter than the Corsair (plus its £5 cheaper :P ). By leaning I mean that unless something suddenly changes my mind then I will almost certainly buy it. Oooh ...

The current contenders are: Nexus value 430 Quietest fanned PSU available according to SPCR, but ATX and AUX 4 pin cables (21" and 18" respectively)might not be long enough without an adapter (having said that, adapters seem to be cheap enough, though not exactly ideal). Massive downside is that it ...

I know this is an old thread, but I was thinking about buying this PSU and am wondering how noisy it is. I could do a fanswap if it works out cheaper than buying a different PSU, but I would like to know how noisy it is first. I've got nexus 92 and 80mm fans and would be quite happy if the Corsair i...

Which PSU for Antec 300?

My current setup of a 'value' case with its built in generic PSU is falling apart, so I intend to replace both the case and the PSU (while spending as little as possible :)) I am considering the Antec 300 case, but I still need to find a quiet PSU that has adequate cable lengths and is also nice and...

I've looked about and the CoolerMaster Elite 330 looks alright for £30. I'd been hoping to avoid modding by buying a new case, but most cases come with fan grills (which I don't want) so it looks like I'm going to have to at least cut some fan grills. With slightly more modding I could probably get...

I've looked into the lower end CM and Antec cases but the Sunbeam is usually at least £10 cheaper The PC is an Athlon 7750 (dual core 2.7GHz) with 3 HDDs. It stays fairly cool when its idling (currently at 41° with the stock cooler which is going to be replaced with an AC Freezer 64 Pro) although ...

Sunbeam Quarterback case

As my current case is a generic cheapo thing which is literally falling apart as we speak, I need a new case. I can't afford any of the SPCR recommended cases and don't really want to spend more than £30 on a case anyway. Spec-wise, the Sunbeam Quarterback seems to be a fairly decent case. It has a...

I've developed a unique and very efficient way to make $$$, which I'm sure could be applied to satisfy your query. The easiest way that I have found to make such large amounts of money is like so: 1) Hold down Shift 2) press 4 ($) 3) Now press 1 4) and then press 0 6 times. Congratulations, you now ...

Do you think this method would be likely to work with larger gaps in the solder? I managed to stab my nvidia card with a small screwdriver when trying to take the cooler apart, resulting in a scrape through 6 tracks. 2 tracks are broken completely... I might be clutching at straws a bit but does an ...

@themaster1 Sorry I forgot to mention that this might not be supported on all motherboards. Version 4.40 is the current version so that shouldn't be a problem. Just to clarify, the exact text for the CPU fan is "CPU0 Fan PWM Base Freq.", there will probably be "Sys Fan" or "Aux0 Fan" values too. EDI...

Stop PWM noise with speedfan

I recently discovered that Speedfan can be used to stop PWM fans from making a high pitched noise, and thought I'd share it. This will only help with noises caused by the Pulse Width Modulation system, so will not help fan bearing noise or DC powered fans. Disclaimer: Please try not to break your co...

Bump.

Anyone think a silent 120mm can create enough pressure to funnel into a 70mm heatsink?

Would I be better off with a quiet 92mm fan and adapter?

What do you think?

I have an Acer V243H which also makes an annoying buzzing noise at anything below 97% brightness or when Auto Contrast Management is turned on. I have to admit that I didn't notice it at first (due to PC noise) but now my PC is quietish it is quite annoying. I can use software controls when I need t...

You could always put it in an external enclosure, bury it under masses of pillows and then seal it in a plastic box. That worked pretty well for me, though its a pain when you need to change discs.

Fan adapter on CPU heatsink

Hello people of SPCR! This is my first post here, as part of my ongoing quest to silence my pc - or at least make it less annoying. My question is this: Is it advisable to use a fan adapter on a heatsink? I have an AMD Athlon x2 7750 with the stock cooler and cool'n'quiet enabled. The 70mm fan is fa...
