If the firewall is to provide protection to network elements beyond the server then it is best to run as a standalone machine. This helps prevent possible firewall tampering in the event that an application running on the server is exploited. It also means that if the server goes down, you don't los...

Tape often has a higher coercivity and retentivity than the magnetic coating sued in hard drives. As a result it takes a stronger magnetic feild to accidently alter it, and a longer time for magnetic decay to affect it, all other things being equal. The problem with long term storage of tape that is...

There are a few cases with vents in the bottom that would permit air intake. But to answer the original question; for my part I'm happy with my PC Power & Cooling supplies. They use an 80mm rear exhaust fan and pull air through the PSU from a series of openings in the PSU housing. My latest is mount...

All magnetic media gradually degrade. If you are comparing specs you want to look for the rententivity (magnetic retention) figures, and perhaps depending on the storage environment the coercivity (resistance to change from magnetic fields). Humididty will have little effect on the magnetic retentio...

I bought a new Asus motherboard the end of July. I decided I would like to evaluate the TPM features as it had a spot for an optional module. Yes it's uch like the old MS/PC-DOS machines with 1MB RAM. You only saw 768KB as the top 256K were allocated to BIOS extension space and video memory and a few buffers. You could get the use of it back by remapping addresses above the 1MB boundary.
