Take a look at this review . Its pretty comprehensive. Obviously you don't need to bother with the SCSI drives, but its got performance and noise levels for a number of the best SATA drives. Bear in mind that softmounting and/or enclosing the hard drive can quieten (though maybe not make completely ...

..Poor viewing angles.. Could be a big problem, especially when watching movies. Sometimes have a few people over to watch them and it doesn't help if they can't see whats going on! I have to say the Dell's do look very smart, only other problem seems to be the high resolution. Good for most things...

Storage Review is the place to go to find news on the best drives. It concludes (as do many people on these forums) that the Samsung SpinPoint series is the best bet. Good value, *generally* very quiet (with a Nidec motor, rather than a JVC one), and they do a 160GB model (~£45).

Best LCD monitor...?
What would you guys recommend? I'd use it for everything (games, DVDs, posting on SPCR...) so would want a good allrounder. Probably go for a 19" one, think the 30" widescreen Dell's are a *tad* excessive... I've heard good things about the ViewSonic VX922 on Tom's Hardware. If anyones got one, what...

Help get SmartDrive 2002C at KustomPCs..
There's a forum at KustomPCs website where you can suggest new products for them to get in. One of the posts is for the SmartDrive 2002C which is regarded as the best HDD enclosure out there, but is unavaliable (so far as I know..) in Europe. If anyone who'd like one could post here and/or over ther...

*Bump* I was about to ask the same thing but no point opening a new thread. One question (on top of the Topic one..): The Smart Drive 2002C seems to be rated quite well by most people, but not as good as suspension. So would suspending the drive in a Smart Drive be any good? Best of both worlds, per...

I must say that I've never associated Jodrell Bank (site of a very large radio telescope a few miles outside Manchester) with live music. You learn something new every day! Bizzar! I used to go on school trips there. Used to think it was actually quite interesting, though that may just have been be...

Re: adequete cooling
With just two nexus's running in the main chamber, is that enough to cool the x2 3800 passive and the Northbridge? Thanks! Depends on what graphics card you go for I suppose. It'd probably be enough but if you get a hot graphics card (the new ATI cards for example), you may have to up the voltage o...

The E6300 – E6700 Core 2 Duo (Conroe) are due to be released in July and hopefully will also actually be available then. Pricing starts at $210, they all have a FSB of 1066 and clock speed are 1.87 & 2.13 (2MB cache), 2.4 & 2.67 (4MB); whereas the E4200 has a FSB of 800, 2MB cache & 1.6 GHz. Matâ...

The suspension bands shouldn't snap, they're pretty durable and can take a fair bit more weight than a HDD. P150 should be fine for that sort of setup, plenty of people have them and like them. Only problem I can see is the graphics card. My brother has a similar card, and he says his overheats unde...

Seasonic do various power supplies, but your right the S12's generally the one to go for. Make sure the mobo doesn't have a fan if you havn't already. As for the fans, I'm pretty sure everyone round here will say Nexus! Only thing I'd change myself is the VGA - if you could stretch to the 7900GT (ab...

I'm not sure what you'll be using the system for, and obviously this'll affect you decision, but the ViewSonic VP930 19" monitor is regarded as the best all rounder. Take a look at the Tom's Hardware roundup of the latest monitors and see which best suits your needs (e.g. gaming = fast response, vid...

I've actually found that Dell are good for RMA's, oddly. Twice now we've had the wrong product (not a glowing report for reliabilty then..), and although one was unusable (broken monitor, guess not their fault), the other was fine. They sent a TNT2 card (remember them..? ) rather than the TNT...

You might want to look at Bluefront's Thread about the M-Cubed miniNG. It only supports 2 fans, so if you need more, they do a 4 fan controller called the T-Balancer which gets excellent reviews. Only problem is they aren't cheap.

I've been looking to get a 7900GTX when I build my new system, as word round these parts seems to be that its the quietest non passive cooler availiable for that card (which is handy! :D ). ...go WD and use AAM to hammer down the seek noise... How much performance do the drives loose when using this, against the noise reductions? The stock cooler does indeed look impressive, though the stock fan is a Delta which are renowned for being very loud. It is temp controlled, but you may still be better getting a Panflow or Nexus to replace it. If you've got the money a Ninja or the Noctua would probably perform better (if they fit)...

Re: MSI and Zalman 7700
What I am thinking is that in the BIOS there is a settings that shuts down the PC automatically when the fan speed is at a minimum. Sounds like you've already figured it out! I'm willing to spend a fair bit if necessary, as its the sort of thing I won't change often (I hope). Had a quick look at the T-Balancer and it looks spot on. Best fan controller for 4 120mm Yate Loons?
What do you guys think would be best? I'd prefere something that automatically adjusted the speeds as necesarry but from what I've read such devices tend to be a little problematic (though please prove me wrong!). They'll go in a P180 case, so will I need to lengthen the 3-pin cables or should they ...
