Quieter solution? Not sure.

Cheapest solution? Hard wire the existing 120mm fan to 5 volts.

I've got a couple older Sparkle PSUs that I've swapped in 80mm 5v Panaflos. Both of those PSUs are still going just fine.

Have you checked out the selection at McMaster Carr ? A quick search for sorbothane and I find they have a 4"x4"x1/2" sheet of soft 40 durometer for $7.61. I'm quite sure that's the sheet of stuff I picked up, works great. And that's about the same price you're seeing direct. No minimum purchase.

How much of my time will this require, and how dedicated to the game will I need to be to play successfully*? For example, do I need to be playing all the time, or can I just play a little each day? If I can't play for several days, will that be bad? * By successfully, I don't mean "win the game", ...

Cool, glad to have ya. If it looks good, spread the word to friends.

We still haven't had a 'large' group of planets in a round. More active planets should make it more interesting.

re: sorbothane vs elastic suspension Ok, so sorbothane is a bit different than your standard 'rubber block. Currently I have my Cuda IV sitting on four 'cubes' of sorbothane instead of a couple strips. With just those four cubes supporting the corners of the drive, I find it equal to the elastic sus...

Hey, I understand. I'm a recovering EverQuest addict. And I let it totally mess up my school and social life. I even relapsed a bit with EverQuest 2. I find this more relaxing and less addicting. With the 20 minute turns, it runs slower (can take ~15 turns to land an attack, 30 turns to build a habi...

Even if you slip and hit the fan blades it shouldn't really hurt as long as you're running fairly quiet low speed fans. The low speed there is key. I've sliced a few fingertips on the blades of a 12v 80mm Panaflo L1A when I wasn't being careful. Not very painful, but it sure makes it annoying to ty...

Could probably do quite well. Taking a look at the steel innards on that case and they're looking A LOT like an Evercase 4252. Especially the drive cages with the tool-free locking systems. Modified a bit with other intakes, but that looks like they started with a 4252 innards. And with that, it pro...

stubek : Two things come to mind: 1) If you're not moving the case around much, the weight issue isn't nearly as much of an issue. 2) Take a browse of the articles on the main SPCR page. Also take a look at the Recommended Lists. That will likely get you just as far as, or farther than, asking a ge...

Personally, I like the Silencer. Running the NV5 on my 6800 (AGP). Yeah, it is audible at 5v, but it also exhausts from the case, letting me run my CPU fan slower.

The weight would likely be less of an issue if its 'upside down'. The heatsink would be resting on the card instead of hanging from it.

I'd say go with most any non-heatpipe cooler solution. The VF700 would do just fine in that position, as would an AC Silencer.

I've got a corner desk at work, with the computer in the corner section. The left side is for piles of stuff, and the phone. The right side is where I can actually get work done.

Definitely the wraparound style. A question though: Are you right or left handed? If you're right handed, you might find it working even better if you put the wrapped desk to the right of your main computer. Then you only have to turn a little bit to write or make use of the open desk to your right....

One of the things coming to my mind is in regards to having a 120mm exhaust right near the CPU like that. Could work quite well to duct that exhaust fan to an XP-120 cooler on the CPU.
