Alternative airflow in SOLO case?
I an attempt to silence my rig further (swapping that HX750 is top priority), I just had a few ideas that I wanted to run by you guys: 1) Getting e.g. a Seasonic X650 PSU, and mounting it with the intake vents facing upwards and making a 12 diameter hole in the top cover of the SOLO. This way the PS...

New silent PSU - Corsair AX750 or Seasonic X650?
Basically - which one to get? The price is the same where I live (Denmark). I need it to power my current rig (see sig), and have enough power for future upgrades (more powerful CPU (i7?) and maybe CF with another 5850. The X650 has gotten rave reviews whereever I read, on the other hand, the AX750 ...

Fan swapping in Antec 3480 PSU?
Hi Guys
How hard is it to swap the fan in the NSK3480 PSU for e.g. a Noctua fan?
I know that I will void the warrenty, but if that's the price for silence...
Also, any ideas on additional fans in the case when using a thermalright Ultra on a i3 540 CPU and using the integrated graphics?

Perhaps better for you to keep the SOLO for now and wait with a new case? and spend money on more RAM instead, ditch the XP OS and get windows 7 and sell the HX750 and buy the Seasonic X650? Hi walle Actually that sounds like a much better idea! I guess I could get a 2x2GB Corsair RAM kit (I have n...

Upgrade to Antec P180 mini + Corsair AX750/850?
Hi Guys It's been a while, as my system has just been running nice and quiet :D Unfortunately my HX520 died this spring, and as I was not aware of the 5 year warrenty, I replaced it with a HX750 as I was unsure if 520W was on the weak side after upgrading CPU and GPU. BIG MISTAKE - where the HX520 w...

Hi Alex This week I put together an HTPC based on the Zotac Ion ITX B (similar specs to the ASUS you link to), and it works like a charm! I have had no problems with skipped frames even when recording 2 programs at the same time (with a USB dual TV tuner). Rest of system is: 4GB Corsair RAM Antec IS...

CPUBurn - Q9650 fails after 6min.
-Should I be worried? My newly installed Q9650 fails CPUBurn after approx. 2 runs - should I be worried? Temps during load go up to about 50*C for each core (idle is approx. 35*C for each core). There are no artifacts, BSOD or anything else. Also, Prime95 causes no problems. Morten P.s. on a ...

Thanks - I'll give Furmark a go :D Just to clarify - it is only during Prime the CPU runs at 6x333 - during games etc. it goes to 9x333 8) I would just expect it to run at 9x333 in Prime95 as well if this test really stresses the system... Someone suggested OCCT or maybe CPUburn which SPCR uses? :wi...

Stress testing Q9650?
So, after finally getting my Q9650 running on all 4 cores  I think it is time to test it. When I a few years ago installed an E6320 I used Intels Thermal Analysis Tool, but apparently it does not support my new CPU - and I cannot find an updated version anywhere. I have tried running Prime95 f...

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks to a couple of nice chaps over on overclock.com. Turns out that I some time ago had set up my boot.ini to boot using 2 cores and forgotten about it. Setting it back to defaults solved the problems  Now CPU-Z, Speedfan, Real Temp etc. reports 4 cores and 4 threads. Thanks...

Generally, you do not have to reinstall the OS after changing CPU's. (I've personally done this several times with no problems. You can try doing a Repair install, which doesn't require reinstalling software, or move up to Windows 7. If you don't do anything you have a very expensive E8400. -Which ...

I may have missed it but, did you reinstall the OS after you changed the cpu? Nope - should that be necesarry? Also just for the record I'm running Windows XP 32bit OEM. In the BIOS, under Main, System Information, Processor, the BIOS reports what CPU is installed. I think the "count" should equal 2 for a quad. There is nothing in the BIOS settings that effect how many cores are available to the OS. If the BIOS lists the correct CPU there is nothing else to do in t...

Check in the motherboard's BIOS if you can find something with a "multiprocessing" in it. When it's disabled, only the first of the two CPUs inside a Q9xx0 is seen. Any idea where in the bios I should look? Core 2 Quad Q9650 - number of cores???
Hi Guys I just installed a Q9650 instead of my Core 2 Duo E6320 - Nice 8) However, I'm a bit puzzeled about the actual number of cores in the Q9650; In Speedfan, only Core0 and Core1 are found. In Real Temp, only 2 cores are shown. Am I being a total n00b, or should there not be 4 cores??? Thanks in...

Thanks :D The Q9400 is about half the price of the Q9550S - but I'm not comfortable with messing with the Vcore in undervolting. The Q9400 is almost the same price as the (non s) Q9550. As for the GPUs, the 5850 is about the same proce as the GTX 275. I do however prefer Nvidia cards, and also it's ...

Hi guys I just purchased an EVGA 8800GT Akimbo to replace my passive ASUS 8600GT - needed more power 8) In idle the fan is at 34% and I cannot hear it in the case (see sig for my specs).
