Well, I can't really say anything about 5000KS, but have the 3200AAKS and that is very silent - actually my Scythe S-Flex E @800rpm are 'louder'.

Silent B/W laser printer?
Hi all [Sorry if this is too far off topic  ] Having recently stepped into the world of silent computing, I am suddenly becoming more aware of noisy periferals. Yesterday my old HP Photosmart P1000 died, so I need to replace it. I really do not need color printing, so I figured that a monochro...

Thanks for all your input. After reading through all the linked articles, I decided to 'play it safe' and go for 2x512MB. After installing, CPU-Z shows 3GB dual channel and Windows Control panel shows 2,93GB, which isn't too bad. I haven't really noticed any performance changes in games, but subject...

XP ram limitations - considerations for upgrade to 4GB?
Hi guys I couldn't find anything on this using the search function, but sorry if it has already been discussed (also, it's not quite 'silent related' in other ways than that my PC is silent  ). I currently have 2GB ram (2x1GB Corsair PC5400), but as I play a fair bit of Gothic 3, I think I coul...

Hmmm... based on a post I read here, I checked the airflow in my case. I started TAT and when the core temps had stabilised (approx. 50 C), I removed the side panel. Within a couple of minutes, the core temps dropped to approx. 45 C. Apparently, my airflow is not optimal... What are my options for i...

Hi Cyberspacegenie Well, I'm no expert, but I have recently put a new PC with almost the same specs (see thread in the 'Advice'-thread). I use Scythe S-Flex E (1200rpm) fans for case and HSF and no intake fan. When running at full speed, the case fan makes some noise - due the the airflow. Using Asu...

Making a WD MyBook quiet/silent?
Hi all I need suggestions for silencing my WD MyBook; it makes a lot of noise in 2 ways: 1) It vibrates when it spins up/seeks/writes 2) It takes a 'long' time for it to spin down Also, it's really annoying that it spinns up (and thereby makes noise) when I open the Explorer, eventhough I do not ope...

8800gts is cool enough, not very loud. I got mine for 259.99, $300 is a bit much. The 8600gt is really weak ive heard, Ive even heard it should be named the 8300gt, because its comparitive to a 7800gt and a 7300gt. Well, I guess that depends what you define as weak... I have an Asus EN8600GT Silent...

Silent external drive for backup?
Hi guys Well, after building a new silent computer, I suddenly notice how much noise my WD MyBook makes  What external (USB/firewire) drive would be a silent replacement? The use would be for backup of photos, documents etc. I have looked at the WD Passport series, as one of these would match m...

Ok, I removed the Ultra-120, and the clearly my paste application was not optimal (=there was no contact with the Ultra-120 in the middle of the IHS  ). So I cleaned everything up with isopropyl alcohol, q-tips and lintfree cloth, and re-seated the Ultra-120 as described on Arctic Silvers webp...

Small update: I swapped the EN8500GT Silent for a EN8600GT Silent last night; quite a difference in GPU temperature! EN8500GT: Idle 64 C, full load (1h of ATItool) 92 C EN8600GT: Idle 48 C, full load (1h of ATItool) 80 C And ofcourse an increase in 3DMark05 from approx. 4400 to 8400... For a price d...

Thanks guys I thought these CPU temps were a bit high for an non-OC'ed C2D... Also I did suspect the paste application to be the culprit; when I was applying it, I looked at the instructions for the AS5 which said to put a line down the middle of the IHS, and the Thermalright HSF instructions said t...

Temps in new build - opinions?
Hi all I finally had some time to play around with Speedfan, TAT and ATItool in order to meassure the temperatures in my new build. Any opinions would be very welcome, as I really have no idea if they are too high, or if there is anything I could do to improve. System specs: Antec Solo w. Scythe S-F...

Controlling S-Flex E as CPU fan on P5B Deluxe
Hi all I got my new system put together last night (pictures will posted later), but the 2 S-Flex E (1200rpm) fans (case and CPU) are making a little more noise than I would like. When I enable the ASUS Q-Fan (silent mode) in the bios, the case fan drops to a nice approx. 800rpm, but the CPU fan (mo...

New quiet system for allround use and video editing
Hi guys Having lurked for some time and read a lot of posts, I have sort of come to the conclusion that this will be a silent and stable system for general allround use (surfing the net, email, Word, playing MP3), videoediting and maybe an occasional adventure game - no FPS or heavy 3D stuff: Antec ...
