GeForce 5200 or Radeon 9000?

A friend of mine gave me his old laptop, which is the same model as mine. He had a GeForce 5200, while mine has a Radeon 9000. Would it be worthwhile to replace the ATI card with the Nvidia one? I'm looking for either improved performance or reduced power consumption.

Neil, your posts are starting to singe my retinas. 8) As for me, I used to have a few computers folding, but they all had to be taken down for one reason or another. I'm hoping to get them back online in the next few months. And I'd really like to build a new scorcher of a system later this year and...

What about a connecting rod/wrist pin arrangement, like what connects the crankshaft to the pistons in a car engine? That would allow you to convert rotary to linear motion instead of a rack and pinion.

Even with high efficiency, manufacturing and disposing of the lead acid battery inside can't be good for the environment. I've even heard from people who use UPS's that the battery doesn't last very long.

After replacing the CPU heatsink, you will most likely want to do something about the northbridge fan. So make sure whatever you pick leaves room for a passive northbridge heatsink.

Seasonic S12-330, or some Fortron-Source models are even cheaper, but hard to know how good they are, as there are many different models, and most are not reviewed.

I wouldn't do it. Ozone in the air eats rubber bands alive. I foolishly used some to bundle up extra cables, and within a couple months the bands were disintegrating.

If it's one of those ducts from the side of the case, I would suggest removing it. They usually don't help and often just add restrictions to your case airflow.

The Panaflo's most likely spin slower, meaning they are quieter and move less air. They probably will provide enough airflow, however.

I always thought of Britney as a good example of white trash/trailer trash. Also, tasteless car modification is pretty widespread in the US. Riced out Fast and the Furious style cars are common in lots of groups. Do chavs do 22-inch wheels or spinners?

Remember, less is more with thermal compound. Try to use as little as possible.

If I had to guess, I would say your CPU fan is the noisiest one. AMD OEM heatsinks usually have 70mm fans, I think, and this one may or may not be controlled by your motherboard. If not, it will be spinning full speed all the time. See if there are any options in the BIOS for controlling the fan, th...

Re: Silvertone PP01?

The P3 connection sounds like a 3.3V connector. Orange is usually reserved for 3.3V, yellow for 12V. I'm not positive, but I think the +4 segment of the 20+4 and the ATX12V connection are electrically and mechanically identical. Do a search for the pinouts and see if they are the same, and if the ke...

To run 12VDC computer fans off wall power, you would need a transformer to converter 120VAC to 12VDC. An old power brick might do the trick. Otherwise, there are some AC fans, but these can be somewhat harder to find. Surplus stores might be a good bet. There's a sticky in the fans and control forum...
