Its interesting, BTX is so well received here but most overclockers consider it a horrendously stupid, terrible design.

Ironically, one of the most common complaints is that the CPU gets the ambient air!

and it should be added that a faster fan is more cost effective than bigger heatsinks; so its probably the more common solution.

Motherboards for AMD will undoubtedly use BTX too. Its an excellent design; theres no reason to go against the flow with something you lack the market to sell. However, since ATX is so proliferous, it will be a while before it is completely replaced. As long as you'll buy ATX parts they'll be sellin...

but the holes are on the inside, won't work with the clips. So just use Duct tape for that professional look. In fact, skip buying the duct altogether and use cardboard and duct tape in the first place. No better way to get that beautiful look.

with the same effeciency, a 100W draw will cause the same amount of heat on a 100W power supply or a 1000W powersupply. Now, the more powerful supply might have bigger heatsinks, in which case it could be quieter.

I have to agree, the risk of not enough is bigger- who cares if the processor is an ugly mess of thermal grease; at least there aren't any spots that get missed.

I'm looking at the designs some more... I don't like where they put the MOSFETs, it looks like they'll be pretty much under the heatsink. that could be a real pain in the ass. There'll probably still be ATX mobos with AGP slots for a couple years though so I won't have to worry about having to upgra...

a good cooler would make a huge difference; the stock amd cooler with a thin 60mm fan is horrible in both noise and performance. A lot of cheap 80mm heatsinks with a low speed fan would perform quite well without too high cost.

Or better yet, design CTX (Cooling Technology Extended) form factor (I invented it, rights reserved as of now :)) , which has a direct wind tunnel (=duct) and the motherboard has CPU, NB & SB lined up, and one fan in the middle of the case (and the duct, of course) sucking air in from the front and...

when I say I added nylon washers, I added them to the clips. They fit on perfectly, and force the springs to compress considerably more, thus drastically increasing my mounting pressure. all the improvement I'm seeing here is probably because of this added mounting pressure.

You could feed it too low voltage, though that would be kinda wasteful. Overall, I wouldn't worry about it a lot. I unplugged my radiator fans yesterday (dual 120mm sized radiator) and even in a poor passive cooling set up, fins horizontal and the fan shroud still on, the water temps went to 20C abo...

I wouldn't worry too much about stagnant air in the mobo side, if your watercooling the GPU/NB/CPU/MOSFETs theres not anything left that produces appreciable amounts of heat. You might have 10 or 15 watts of heat dissipation there if you have PCI cards, but it shouldn't be a problem. If you've got e...

if the heatsink is hotter without increasing the heatsource, the thermal interface has been improved. 8C is quite a good improvement... My 8rda+ heatsink was near room temperature in the stock set up. I cleaned off their goop and put AS3 on, it was still pretty cool. Then, I added nylon washers from...

I've been trying to figure out a way to flatten the tubing some too, the best I've come up with is beat it with a hammer a bit and then sand that flat. Fortunatly, the drives and MOSFETs don't put out alot of heat so you don't need a great contact. Thanks for the info on the pipe bending spring, I h...

most fan controllers would work; like a DigitalDoc5 with a sensor in the water. There is however, a better way- make a large reservoir, like a 5 gallon bucket. With 5 gallons of water to heat up, any changes in water temp will occur very slowly; so even if you can't cool a processor under full load,...

running coolest has to be the super silencer, since its effeciency is so much higher. The plug for the seasonic only reports fan speed; the circuitry for fan control is all in the PSU. I usually don't even plug in the fan monitoring cable, since I know its not going to break 1400 RPM. The zalman is ...
