So. Tonight I replaced the RAM with standard 1.8V ram and cleared the CMOS. That fixed the problem. The system now boots fine. However I only put 1 of 2 Gb of ram in. I am going to have to put the second stick in soon; only then will I know if the system is actually fixed. I'll keep you posted but f...

No, I haven't ruled that out. It seems unlikely to be the case, though, for a low-dust, <1 year old high quality case (Antec Solo) But it is a possibility, and so trying it outside the case with a screwdriver will rule that out. Only thing is, whenever the computer is running normally, it shuts off/...

FYI, the 600W GameXstream is also a leaf-blower. Loud as can be...I replaced it with an HX520 after about a month of ownership because it was driving me insane.

PS. I don't have a PSU tested but I do have a multimeter. But since issues only arise when hardware-level changes are made to the system, and otherwise the computer is flawless (no crashes, no BSOD, nothing) it would seem to me that a configuration issue is to blame (ie CMOS, or RAM voltage) and not...

Excellent suggestions, all of them. I'm picking up the computer tomorrow to disassemble it. I have two spare PSU, spare ram, and maybe a spare video card. So I can test it. I have tested it inside the case in a number of configurations - no video card, no ram, 1 stick of ram, 2 sticks of ram, no har...

I have been having the exact same problem with a computer I built for my uncle. It worked perfectly the last few months with occasional problems, and those were fixed by clearing the CMOS and starting anew. Yesterday I went to install a new hard drive, and I did nothing more than plug in the SATA co...

Just my $.02: I will be making a WHS build thread soon, as the parts I've ordered are finally arriving. My system requirements are slightly different as I intended to make a WHS that would be able to transcode SD or HD on the fly and send it to a media center at my TV. I intend to use Tversity to do...

I put Vista on my new computer 6 months ago and I haven't looked back. Above and beyond the nicer look, the indexing and searching, the thing I've noticed the most is the improved startup/shutdown times and sleep. Startup and shutdown are clean and fast, and sleep works perfectly. One button press, ...

I'm confused, is this PSU good to replace multiple PSU's with? I want to have multiple computers connected to this PSU inside the closet. Is it possible? How many harddrives can it handle? I will probably use 15 harddrives inside the closet. Sir, you're a legend. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread...

What worked for me was to buy a 12V 8-pin extender (about 1 ft long) for about 10 bucks. Then I ran the cable out the back and behind the motherboard tray, up to the top and plugged it into the socket at the top left side of the motherboard.

I had lots of room to spare.

No, there is a threaded screw mount rising up a bit from the backplate itself. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc92/markmcvea/IMG_6442.jpg See it? That is about the distance between the Ninja mount and the motherboard floor. The baseplate has a bit of spring too it because of the sticker on the b...

Glad I could help. I've looked and looked before on SPCR and while I found lots of "use a bolt-through kit" posts I haven't actually seen one used. The kit is great - it screws down a set amount only before it stops, so you don't have to worry about overtightening. The problem is mounting. Make sure...

Success Story - Switch case, Antec SOLO to Antec P182b

Since I build this computer I have felt like it’s too loud and too hot. When I built it, I went for power and reliability and data security – hence the 3 storage drives. They were intended as a RAID5. I don’t know where I got the idea that a 600W PSU behemoth was required but ... it was too la...

go with the Ninja, and get a thermalright bolt-through mounting kit. Works like a charm for me. Was a pain to install though, took me about 30 minutes. But my temps dropped 8-10 degrees when I put replaced the push pins with a backplate+screws, and the kit only cost me 6 bucks.

Yes, of course, I realize that. For me, the Solo was too small - it felt cramped, and even with good cabling there didn't seem to be good airflow. The OCZ PSU heated up very quickly, and drowned any fans I had (Yate Loons) right away. Computer specs: CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 + Scythe Ninja Rev B Mother...

My mistake - I switched from an Antec SOLO, not a P150. Same case but black, and no PSU. As to your question: Tough to say. The new setup is definately quieter - but that is mostly to do with the new power supply. One thing I can say though is that my old PSU was really loud when the fans ramped up,...

Switch from P150 to P182

Hi there - first post. I recently (last night) finished a rebuild of my computer to try to quiet it down. In a nutshell, I took my Core 2 Duo based computer out of a P150 case and put it into a P182b. I replaced an OCZ GameXstream 600W PSU with a Corsair HX 520. I'm going to put a post in General Ga...
