Not sure about Solidworks, but here is Adobe's support list for GPU acceleration. Acrobat 9, After Effects CS4, Bridge CS4, Flash Player 10, Photoshop CS4, and Premiere Pro CS4 all can use the GPU to help in certain areas. All that is required is a DirectX 9.0c (Shader Model 3.0)/OpenGL 2.0-complian...

Any botanists out there?
Hey all, I bought this plant at a sale at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) a few years back. It has been slowly growing in my house, and I was kinda curious what kind of plant it was. It's not smokable (not weed), so that rules one thing out. What else could it be? Thanks http://img.techpowerup.o...

I haven't heard the C2D stock HSF in a while, but if memory serves me correctly it is about equal to the HSF that came with my i3-530. This would all depend on what board you use, however, since the board will dictate at what speed the fan will run. @Hermit, the i5-661 has a small semblence of Turbo...

I don't want to seem rude or condescending... I am somewhat amazed that when talking about court cases, people rely almost entirely on rhetoric and normative appeals as opposed to the judicial process (convoluted as it may be...) 1. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a mention of a "separation of ...

nVidia's Optimus technology actually does completely turn off the power to the graphics card when not in use. This requires a specialized motherboard and specific hardware, however (for now, only mobile applications)...

Have you tried taking ownership of the folder? Right-click the folder, then go to Security>Advanced>Owner. Then under the "Change owner to:" area, select yourself as the owner, then check the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects". Then OK out of everything, and you should be abl...

Thanks for all the great advice. @jessee, what did you mean by the following? Is there a path for the lighting to get to the cable without going through a device that connected to a surge suppressor? I'm starting to think that maybe I'm being a bit too zealous in protecting my server. Maybe I'd be b...

Never actually thought about doing it the way you suggested. My only concern is that there is a remote (emphasis: remote ) possibility that the electrical surge originates not from an external connection like the electrical grid or my cable connection, but from a direct lightning strike to my house....

Anyone know of a UPS with gigabit ethernet support?
I recently built a Windows Home Server, and was looking to protect it with an uninterruptible power supply. The issue I'm having is that it's hard to find a UPS that has explicit support for gigabit (1000baseT) ethernet. Most UPS will support 8P8C ("RJ45") connections, but when you plug gigabit devi...
