There's only one thing I have to say about that.... ....huh. It's a shame that no one's figured out a workaround for the inconvenient placement of the HTT chipset. How hard is it to make a waterblock with inputs at an angle? I also wish they would have gone into more detail about the passive pump co...

Glad you're happy with it :) To me, Apple probably makes the best laptops on the market (it's really a shame the G5 chips are too hot for the powerbooks)....but this makes perfect sense. Apple's main weakness to people like us is that you can't really re-arrange anything, swap out parts, or change m...

I like those choices too, but it seems that exhausting the air from the VGA card directly out of the case is a good option, since the high-end ones run at upwards of 70C nowadays. I know the video card can take that kind of heat, but that's a lot of stress to put on a (hopefully) quiet PSU, and a lo...

I've just got the bone-stock 256meg for now. I haven't had any crashing issues, but I do see how stretched the memory is. A lot of page-file usage slowing things down a bit. fairly slow opening programs for the first time, will additional ram help speed this up? DC It should. OSX really shouldn't b...

The whine is high pitched, more like the CRT type whine and higher than any singing range. Which parts on a motherboard are the MOSFETs? And if they are making a noise can anything be done about it? Stock Artic Silencer on HIS cards
Anyone had any experience with these? They look interesting, with a modified artic silencer built onto them already. The <20dB claim seems iffy, but they're getting good reviews.
On a side note, how silly is it for HIS to put "HIS certified" on their stuff?

I had a problem with my iBook G4 crashing for no apparent reason with the originaly 256MB only. I added 1gb from outpost and that solved ALL my stability issues. Nice job, Mike, looks like a lot of work went into that! :D The amount and quality of noise the PSU makes with a typical load in a noise-optimized PC. Ranked from 1-10, 10 being completely noiseless, 9 being effectively inaudible, 5 being very quiet (~25 dBA/1m with a benign acoustic signature), and...

Standing waves are a problem when trying to obtain flat frequency repsonse (such as in audio listening room), but I don't believe they actually increase to the total power output of a signal. I don't see much of a benefit. The difference between a recording studio or listening room is that the reflected sound must be attenuated (reduced) the first time it hits a wall surface because the microphone or listener is in the same enclosed area that the sound originates from. I think you mean ...

Case modding and parallel surfaces (Physics of Sound 101)

The audigy thing has me a little miffed. AFAIK, the connectors on the front of any case are some bizarre standard that only ever works with onboard Mobo sound, which is usually pretty heinous. since noone else has replied yet... i'd guess that any sort of online UPS or UPS with AVR (same thing i think?) will tend to dissipate as much heat as a (pretty efficient) power supply, since that's more or less what they are. an interactive UPS shouldn't normally get any warmer than a good power b...

I wonder if you're getting coil whine from the MOSFETs on your Mobo. When you say high-pitched whine, do you mean 10kHz, like the whine an old CRT monitor can make? Or more like around 1kHz, a high women's singing range? I don't have any personal experience with the A7N, so I can't say for sure that...

I would take a wild guess that the bent screw holes have a lot to do with the increase in noise. It's possible that the case is now rattling against itself, which doesn't sound like an average rattle when it's happening at 1500-2000Hz. Or perhaps the seal against the screws is no longer airtight, an...
