More reviews of this abit mobo are popping up, from Björn3D and techFEAR . The Björn3D review was a surprise, as my initial reaction was: WTF? (1) They basically compared the AM2 and C2D platforms (rather than other AM2 boards) by testing X2 3800+ vs. E6600 (!)... and then complained about the poo...

I saw this article yesterday but didn't have a chance to read it until today: Josh Walrath's testing of the new 3600+ at Penstar Systems. Again, no thermal or power consumption data; just an overclocking endeavor. He got close to 2.8Ghz but cited the motherboard as the limiting factor. The chip scal...

Any thoughts on the Antec Titan or Atlas cases guys? The Atlas looks like a modified P150/SOLO with a 550W TruePower PSU and 80mm side-mounted fan; the external dimensions are the same, and there's that HD suspension cage. Bodes well for quietness, but it sure won't hold nine hard drives without mo...

AMDZone's first look at the 3600+ Brisbane, for what it's worth. They basically tell you they could overclock the chip to 3.1GHz with a core voltage boost. That's it.

Black paint shouldn't be any more scratch-prone than gray paint, but I guess any defects can be more visible. I don't think thermal properties matter all that much, either. Heck, there isn't even much of a difference between aluminum and steel (unless you're using the case as a heatsink, of course)....

I prefer the 120mm fan size for ease of replacement with even quieter solutions, if one so desires. As for bling, I go the opposite direction: plain, elegant, unassuming, modest, refined... whatever you call it. Seasonic's current S12s are perfectly fine for me, save for perhaps the lack of modular ...

65nm X2 3600+

I caught wind of this new, unlisted (OEM-only) AMD processor on The Tech Report's "deal of the week" feature. Available separately or in a discounted bundle with a Biostar TForce mobo, it is a 65nm, 65W EE Brisbane clocked at 1.9GHz with 512KB of L2 cache per core (unlike the original 90nm 3600+ at ...

On the other hand, the MSI board has only two memory slots and a less-than-optimal location for the 4-pin auxiliary power connector. Just things to consider.

The mirrored finish doesn't do it for me. I like the gunmetal color, but black is good, as well. Heck, I'd like an all-black case. No visible gray/silver.

ASUS M2A-VM HDMI

This is the first motherboard based on the new AMD 690G ( ATI RS690 ) IGP chipset for Socket AM2, and was recently announced at CES . Said to contain Radeon X700-class integrated graphics, the chipset was delayed due to licensing issues concerning HDCP support, and it was thought that ASUS would omi...

Notice that, in addition to the new cable-routing opening on the side, the hole in front of the PSU has been retained. Although there is no longer a sliding plate there, one should still be able to route wires through it if desired. So, the 3400 should be at least no worse than the 3300 in this resp...
