But of course the overall system temperature is better in an aluminium case(if airflow is equal in both). This is a myth. While scientifically true about the heat conductive properties of the different metals, when it comes to computers this means at most, the hard drive MIGHT be 1-2C cooler. Every...

I've read many reports of people who consider the stock cooler on the 8800 to be quiet, but I have to be skeptical. I've seen a few almost quiet <60mm fans, but none quiet enough for my PCs (even the non-silent ones). Agree, here. The 60mm stock cooler for my current VGA card was actually louder th...

The solo is awesome, and with the p180 your paying for a crappy PSU. Not going to find much better for the price.
Uh, what PSU? The P180 doesn't come with one.

The middle fan pulls the air across the hard drives, so they're still getting the same benefit as if the fan was in the front.

The case isn't designed to accept a 120mm intake for the bottom chamber... that's what the fan in the middle blowing on the PSU is for. To put a fan in the front, you'd have to mod the case.

[ Thanks for your reply. Man, you're not kidding about the cabling issues... Doesn't seem like a lot of air gets through all that cabling in the lower chamber to cool the PSU, but obviously it's not hurting your system. I use a 350w Phantom, and if you're careful, cabling isn't really that ...

going by a pre-configured system here, using the tnn500, it should be able to handle that processor. The 300 is a smaller case and hence the lower price tag and cooling ability.

Has anybody noticed there are certain system components that are over-represented here compared to other websites on quiet PCs? For instance, the Antec P180 case, the Asus P5B motherboard, SeaSonic power supplies, the Scythe Ninja (one of Scythe's least-popular models AFAI can tell). Why is that? F...

Re: Attempting to build my first 'near-silent' PC

Hi all, I hate two things about Seasonic - one, they not modular and two, they're not sleeved. Sleeved, modular cables are the key to a neat PC (IMHO!). I don't have the time or inclination to sleeve my own cables, and I really hate having 200 cables that I will never use inside a case. Seasonic. S...

All P180s now have the revised door. The SPCR is based on the original design, and comes with the VGA duct. The only other difference between it and the P180B is a clip to attach a fan to the hard drive cage and a smaller fan in the PSU chamber.
