If you don't need a quad core, go with an i5. Decent on-chip graphics, and cool, but pretty fast CPU. And get a large heat sink. The get a PicoPSU as power supply, thus eliminating all PSU noise, as well as keeping the heat from the AC-DC converter out of the case. As for CPU cooler, go with what ha...

Great low power build! Seems like you can't go wrong with a build like this. Pretty much what I would go for in terms of chassis, motherboard and cpu. My only recommendation is to upgrade to a picoPSU and get a larger, fan less tower-style CPU cooler. You'll lose two fans from your case, and you'll ...

You could run it headless, maybe? Just pull the graphics adapter and watch the idle watts. Granted that you've got a watt-meter, that is.

Have you thought of getting a Ninja Mini and running the CPU fanless? Also, if you drilled a hole, do you think it would fit a 120 mm fan?

Cool build. I think I'm about to get hooked on building a D510MO server myself. :)

Great idea using an empty PSU shell for the plug! Mind if I steal that one?

What are your impressions of the D510MO? Do you have any fans in there and how are the temperatures?

Get fans that spin at abou 600-700 RPM and soft-mount them - practically silent. As for the PSU, you would probably need to silence this "manually". I.e. Fan swap for a better fan. Or take the ultimate step and get a fanless unit. I have two 650 RPM Nexus fans in my room, in which I also have my bed...

I wouldn't worry about foam, unless I had a VERY quiet rig already. I foam'ed up my case as the last touch, since it was already about as quiet as I could do within reason. (see signature for specs)

If you just have a "normal" computer it will do jack.

I guess I just have an ever so slight hesitance about swapping out the fan. If I was to go down that root which fan would be best (Access to Nexus, Noctua and Scythe). You shouldn't worry about fan swaps, other than you're voiding the warranty of your PSU, but I guess you already know that. :D As f...

Nice! Actually I remember seeing another VGA cooler which bended over the top of the card, so the heatsink was placed on the other side of the card. I can't find the picture again nor remember the name of it, but I bet something like that would give me more room to work with. You're probably talkin...

Hey, looks great with the cabling. CPU cooling: While Mugen2 may be slightly better than a Ninja, it's certainly no night and day difference. Why not just go for inaudible? If you have just ONE fan, soft-mounted, at ~600 RPM, you won't be able to hear it - no chance - and you'll have no cooling issues what so ever. My workstation build is in my sig, and I literally can't hear it from under my desk. I wouldn't use a small case like that. A...

quad 9400 is huge for a pc-server! for an efficient psu, look to PW200 or picopsu150, with AC/DC power brick. +1! Swap that quad for a low-power CPU like E5200 or something. Then get a PicoPSU 90W or equal. That will give you by far the best efficiency! What do you do with this PC that takes a quad...
