Re: Quiet Mini-ITX Gaming Build Guide #3: BitFenix Prodigy E
Great article Lawrence! Been waiting for an SPCR POV build with the Prodigy/Phenom cases for a long time, and you got right to the most important aspects of it :D I'm wondering if an OC'd gaming system would change much of the thermail/noise performance. I hope MikeC shares his experience with AIO w...

Re: Journey to a Silent MicroATX Gamer
Bitfenix Prodigy/Phenom mATX versions would work, but they're pretty darn big. We have a mITX Biftfenix build on the way. *facepalm* always forget those cases' dimensions, they look much smaller in pics. Wasn't there a page that compared measurements? I remember they were simple rectangles, but ver...

Re: Journey to a Silent MicroATX Gamer
Wow nice article! Although the breadbox style case aren't my bread and butter (lol, sorry for that ), I understand it's appealing for many people.
What about the Bitfenix Prodigy/Phenom mATX versions? Would those be too restrictive because of low volume?
Merry Christmas to you too!

Re: Swiftech H240-X CPU Liquid Cooling Kit
Good point. I've been thinking on my next upgrade and a socket 2011 based system is a serious candidate. If I decide for that, my whole cooling strategy would change. yes, I've been playing with some in the past few weeks. Please share your experiences! I'm gonna keep an eye open for your comments, ...

Re: Swiftech H240-X CPU Liquid Cooling Kit
Wow, I really expected more from Swiftech. I wonder how the H240-X would perform with alternative fans, though the pump would still be a serious noise source as with most AIO loops. Thanks for yet another great article! P.S.: Ok perhaps this is somewhat OCD  :in upcoming article's compariso...

Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version
Did you try creating a custom fan behavior profile? Is that possible w/ MSI control apps? If no, you can always try loading the Asus GPU Tweak -- it works on a non-ASUS 970 for us here in the lab. I think most or all of these 970/980 cards have a built-in safety feature of the fans going to 100% wh...

Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version
I just got the later (MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G) and it's amazing how it stays cool inside my Solo II at idle (less than 20C delta) with the fans turned off. Just rounding up the statement (for anyone considering these cards), while gaming temp goes around 50C delta and fans get pretty loud (no precise ...

Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version
Great article! SPCR is one of the few serious hardware sites I still trust. We have a couple Zotac plain jane 970s but the cooler just isn't good enough to keep its fans from automatically ramping up when the GPU hits 90C, and it's hard to keep it below 90C without a fair bit of airflow, which means...

Re: ATX PSU for HTPC
The Cooler Master Elite Power is more probably that not one of the worst branded unit in the market, personally I'd avoid it like the plague. About those Corsairs, the CS-M is quieter than the CX-V2, and it's one of the most efficient units in the market, so it's my favourite among those quoted PSU...

If fan noise is an issue, I have the option to swap the fan, no problem there: - CORSAIR CS450M Modular - $99 - CORSAIR CX500 V2 - $85 - COOLER MASTER Elite Power 400W - $40 No other l...

Polls?
Hi all, it's been a while since the recommended section is outdated. I understand it could be difficult to keep a list up to date. What if we made a poll for each component? Say, ask for votes only from 1st person experience. This could be a helpful tool for someone looking for new components (that ...

Nice article!
It's a shame the SFX PSU offering is so meager (or non existent) outside the US Else it would be a great option for replacing my current gaming system (Antec Solo-II).

Re: My P180 is getting old
Hi, I had a similar setup (2500K@4.7/GTX680/2xSSD/1xHDD/Noctua NH-U12P) in a P182 and last year moved all to a Solo II. I'm very happy with its smaller volume while still comfortable to manipulate components inside. I've tried other case brands for clients (NZXT H2, Corsair 550D, CM 690 II) and beli...

Re: HCG620 vs TX650 vs CX500?
thanks for the info!
I have only those available because I'll swap them between PCs I already have.
I find the TX650's fan is the loudest component in this server, replacing that to a nexus would help? or would the HCG-620M be a better choice?

HCG620 vs TX650 vs CX500?
Hi all, I'm rearranging some PCs and have the chance to replace my media server's PSU with one of these: - Antec HCG620-M - Corsair TX650(V1) - Corsair CX500 Questions are: 1. Which one is better (quieter) unmodded? 2. Which one is quieter replacing the stock fan? (seems HCG620 is out of the questio...

hey Mari0-Br0s! thanks for the detailed feedback!
