If the card is fine for you, you could try with an additional fan, or maybe switch to an aftermarket cooler. Unless switching cards is cheaper (which I assume is not, if the shop ain't going to swap it)

Leaning..? The screen it's a pivot, it can be rotated. Regarding the strength of the spring, the monitor has 3 years warranty, so I'll make it fix and if it breaks again, I will still have time to have it fixed once more :) And anyway, I've found what seems to be a good home-made solution in case on...

The only actual case fan is a Nexus 120mm exhaust which is the only thing I can hear from where I sit @ 1 meter from the PC. What's the point of having just one fan if you can hear it ? :) better have two and run them both at lower speed. IMO having many fans is OK as long as they're all inaudible....

I don't think you can do that. Those programs were just not designed with a multiuser environment in mind.

You could probably forbid some users from launching them, but I don't think there's a way to prevent 'unauthorized' modification of the configuration.

Re: What exactly is the ambient temperature of 8800 GTS?????

Some people on other sites are posting idle temps of 20-22 degrees. What is ambient temp exactly?? I don't know the answer, but please keep in mind that some software will report unadjusted temperatures, which the unaware user may actually take as truthful. SpeedFan is such a software; don't even b...

One thing worth noting is that DDR2 and AM2 chips have become cheaper than 939 counterparts, just in case you want to upgrade or replace some parts. I ended up buying an Asrock 939NF6G-VSTA for less than 60 €. It's not bad, can do underclocking and undervolting (without CnQ). It doesn't have much ...

That chipset has an IGP, to test for stability it would be necessary to stress both the southbridge and the graphics card, which I haven't done yet. MCP61 boards' owners what's your experience?

My second rig is currently in a hot, old case, and the thing reaches insane levels of temperature. I do not have a sensor attached, but I was naive enough to touch the puny copper heatsink only to burn my finger (ouch!)

I have the 970, it's a good panel but the arm is weak. On the largest national forum (of my country) there's a thread running where users report their experience; most of them (all?) had problems after 3-4 months of use. Indeed mine developed the same problem. AFAIK Samsung will replace those monito...

My 939-based AMD system works perfectly fine with Knoppix and Trinity live CDs, as far as I can tell. AMD AM2 should work fine under Linux with nVidia-based motherboards such as the 6150SE . 65-nm parts, such as Brisbane dual cores, are energy-efficient and reasonably fast. Of course the C2D is fast...

If you only need to put three drives in, I think you would be better suspending them with some elastic. Those 4-in-3 brackets are only useful if you need to pack 4 drives in. In case more airflow is needed, a Scythe Kama Bay (sp?) will do it; the elastic + the Kama Bay (fan included) is way cheaper ...

Power Factor in S12-430

My brand new S12-430 has what seems to be an unusually low power factor. Usually it's around 0.87, much less than the 0.99 reported in the review; the power meter seems ok and reports 0.99 for my Enermax Noisetaker 2.

Total AC power draw is under 80W, but this shouldn't be an issue. Any idea?

Chieftec IMO is a value brand, most of their products should cost less than a Solo. Thermal paste for a notebook

I'm currently servicing my sister's laptop. The thing has a copper cooler with a heatpipe and spring-loaded screws for the mounting. It also has a weird kind of pad as a thermal interface for the CPU. Any experience with these? Is it safe to remove it and replace it with a more mundane thermal paste...

Yes, it's possible. In most AMD motherboards the U120 will be exhausting upwards, while on 775 motherboards, you have the choice. If you have a DFI AMD motherboard, you'll need the S-Clip to allow for rotated mounting.
