Re: 140 mm long PSU, non-modular, quiet?

Not sure where you got this info from. I've seen several posts about noisy S12G's here. It may look a lot like the G-360, and the fan model is the same as in some other Seasonics, but the difference is the fan controller. New S12G-550 louder than 3 year old stock video card 550 W customer review fr...

140 mm long PSU, non-modular, quiet?

(Jump to the bold text if you don't want to read it all.) I'm interested in buying a Raijintek Metis case. Combined with a 140 mm long PSU it would be possible to use longer graphics cards than advertised (> 170 mm). My current GTX 660 TI is actually 170 mm long, but I want to choose a PSU that fit...

Re: Any better ITX than SG06? Maybe PC-Q07 or Node 304 or PC

Thanks Mats, I will add the Metis to my print. Maybe she'll like some colors. (I would love to have these former red Lian Li cases !! It made them special and not just a black like everyone.) It's a bit longer than the Coolcube (and as you said, I don't use graphics card) Nice colors, and decent pr...

Re: Any better ITX than SG06? Maybe PC-Q07 or Node 304 or PC

Another suggestion, a 13 l case: http://www.raijintek.com/en/products_de ... oductID=17

It may not have the best ventilation for a graphics card, but I guess it won't matter here.
Plenty of room for a big cooler and a regular PSU, especially when no graphics card is used.

Re: quiet mITX with mid range hardware

It is very hard (for me) to find a non-oversized (pico)PSU. Additionaly the fan of <250W PSUs are typically small and I am afraid that would result in the PSU being the loudes component, at least at load. This is a picoPSU (old review from 2006): http://www.silentpcreview.com/picoPSU They're all fa...

The 4670 is closer to 40 W AFAIK.

Maybe get a pico psu? ;) You know it would make it much more easier to pick a case.

That BeQuiet PSU is 140 mm deep, not 150 mm.

I got the impression that you live in Germany? Link to the heatsink: http://geizhals.de/noctua-nh-u14s-a929404.html

Or is it the UK? http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?p=1822028

Re: the idea of mITX and a huge GPU

Is it crazy of me to suggest that CPU cooler <100mm height are too loud/cannot get rid of the heat in such a small system? It all depends on the CPU, of course. I don't think it will be a problem with a 4670 that uses maybe 40 W at most. For instance, the AXP-200 is only 60 mm tall but works very w...

Re: the idea of mITX and a huge GPU

THIS is just crazy small, something I would aim for. :D Still powerful, I'm just doubting it may be really quiet near idle :( The TU100 in the video is 11.9 l, while the Cooltek Coolcube I linked to is 10,1 l. Unlike the TU100, the Coolcube has a decent intake for the GPU in the bottom, cost €30 le...

Re: the idea of mITX and a huge GPU

I haven't read the whole thread, but the 4770K is overkill for gaming with that graphics card, and overclocking won't make any difference. Use that money for a faster GPU instead if you want to spend money. The 3 year old 2600K is still a very fast CPU compared to the 4770K. In this review you can s...

Re: SilverStone SST-ST45SF Power Supply

Their latest 300 W model is semi passive, and a 600 W model is planned for April. We'll probably see some news about it from CeBIT. There seem to be some space under the PSU, maybe 15 mm, maybe that's a good place for some unused cables? http://www.silverstonetek.com/images/products/ml06/ml06-inside...

I wouldn't cut them off. In the end they won't make any difference after you have put the lid on.

It sounds like you already have the PSU? Silverstone is about to launch new SFX models that has semi passive fans.

Re: Silent keyboards to buy in Scandinavia

I'm still using the UltraX from 2004, but I'd like a new one. I think the Fujitsu KB900 could be a great replacement. Logitech have given up making flat keyboards that also works for gaming years ago, the Logitech Illuminated is one example, the K740 is another. Also, the keyboard doesn't as have th...

AFAIK, smaller vents block the airflow much more than they block noise.
Just look at basically any case that's considered quiet, there's usually more vents provided than needed.

It looks nice, but I think you need much more air intakes for those components, at least if you want it to be reasonably quiet.

Here a German hardware search engine, the only thing you need to know about it is that the customer reviews of the stores (Händler-Bewertung) works differently. The closer to a 1 in review rating the better. That's why you see a lot of stores with a rating between 1 and 2. Lots of filters, very usef...

By the way, a clean install of Vista SP2 is a pretty good OS. There, I said it. :D If your computers came with Vista preinstalled, and then have been downgraded to XP, you may have a free solution for upgrade right there. Most people hate Vista, but few have ever tried a clean install of Vista SP2. ...

Re: Windows XP EOL (8 April 2014), budget Win7 migration ide

When you bought a computer with XP, Vista or W7 it was activated with an SLP key. It was one key for all HP Windows 7 Professional licenses, one key for all HP Windows 7 Ultimate licenses, etc. When you reinstall you usually use the COA key, which is a unique key. That's why SLP is an alternative wa...

Re: Windows XP EOL (8 April 2014), budget Win7 migration ide

Takes some extra time, but you can upgrade XP Pro to Vista Business to Win 7 Pro, and then use the key on the COA. Why not just do a clean install with W7 directly? COA keys usually works with clean inställs and retail isos. Now that I think of it, it's possible that the machines has SLP certificat...

So just replacing MSE is not an option? I see why you want to upgrade the OS, but in this case it sounds like you're basically paying $100+ per machine for a AV software renewal, since the hardware is pretty much the same. Given how lousy MSE is, this doesn't make much sense at all. http://www.av-te...
