Re: what is more advance os x or windows 10

I will say OS X. Windows 10 received some modern GUI updates a few years ago as part of Microsoft's initiative to rebrand its image and promote Office 365. But since then, there hasn't been any substantial improvement. But it's still an incohesive and incohesive experience. Windows has old programm...

They are both worse. ;) What do you mean by advanced? There's so much more than the bare tech involved. And even if we narrow it down to only tech it's still a pretty hard question to answer. Why do you care? im using windows 7 i am thinking of learning clover efi bootloader to boot on an an nvme o...

the asus p5k disk says vista when i run it in compatibility it still crashes. i prefer using speedfan which worked perfectly on msi 975 and gigabyte dsr3, doesnt work well on asus. bios seemingly only works with cpu fan and chasis fan 1, but not the other 2 fan headers. ami bios is far different fro...

Re: is SPCR dead due to technology advances?

I think the decline of this site's popularity happened for several reasons: 1) Less people use desktops 2) Increased energy efficiency = less noise 3) Improvement in quality of PC parts (in aggregate) 4) Improvement of quality control of PC parts (the companies that offered inferior products went o...

Re: freeing up PCI express lanes disabling bios

PCI-Express lane management is still necessary even with the latest generation of Asus (and other makes) Intel Z370 boards. On your particular board it was designed to be AMD Crossfire compatible. So if both the PCI-E 16x slots were occupied with AMD graphic cards it would auto-select 8X speed for ...

freeing up PCI express lanes disabling bios

I just recently purchased a ASUS p5k to replace both my msi 975x and gigabyte p35 dsr3 both died. P5k works. one issue i discovered is the intel p35 has 16 lanes directly connected to the north bridge the Intel I/O Controller Hub 9 supports 6 lanes 2 lanes are used, 1 lane for gigabyte ethernet port...

Re: I prefer windows 7 and office 2003

The Asus P5K is definitely what is now called a Legacy BIOS. Bearing in mind that the latest BIOS update available for it is over 10 years old the BIOS clearly dates to a considerable time before UEFI appeared. So it can't be updated. Clover EFI and Duet are presumably designed to load a software-b...

Re: I prefer windows 7 and office 2003

The Asus P5K has 2 PCI-Express 16X slots. On most current motherboards using both of these slots would reduce speed to 8X but I'm not sure this is the case with the P5K. It's possible that using both would drop the speeds to 16X + 4X. The adaptor you are proposing to use specifies 4X PCI-Express 3....

Re: sssd sata vs nvme pci boot windows drive

The only real gain you will have with NVME is if you need sequeantial writes/reads, like heavy editing. For everything else, you wont be able to tell them apart on a blind test, you see, what an SSD brings to the table is given by its design, not by the interface, the 0 latency super resonsive feel...

Re: is SPCR dead due to technology advances?

I am familiar with that type of case. The one change you could make is to fit a PWM exhaust fan using a PWM Y cable to run it from the CPU header. From your local PC store the cheapest PWM fan should be around $15 and a PWM Y cable around $5. So for $20 this setup will give an exhaust fan which wil...

Re: is SPCR dead due to technology advances?

This thread from win-raid.com may help . And if that's the case is all the potential hassle with Clover EFI really going to be ...
