No, I wouldn't suggest it. The fan in the PSU is not intended to handle the heat of an entire system. It's possible that a good power supply could handle that, but it would require the fan to run at full speed all the time. If instead you used a Nexus or Scythe 120mm fan for the system and allowed t...

Ninja on P35-DS3L - Anyone have pics?
I've got a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, and I'm looking at a Ninja. I know the heatsink itself will fit, but I've got some other plans regarding the voltage regulators and the chipset heatsink, and I'm not sure about those things. Does anyone have this setup, and if so would you mind taking a few pictures ...

You find DVD to be such high quality because you're used to such useless rips. For those of us who have become accustomed to DVD quality, the transition to high definition is just as shocking. However, most people have never actually seen full DVD quality, because in order to do so you need a TV cap...

You correctly guessed the purpose of the 'System' fan header - you can plug a case fan in. This can allow you to control and monitor its speed. As for your temperatures, they are both fine, and the CPU temp is exceptional. What type of processor are you running? If it's a newer Core 2, make sure to ...

You'll find no 60mm fan recommendations here because they are almost universally loud. If you need to improve the cooling on your chipset, why not look at a better cooler overall? I think the ideal choice would be something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109128 O...

I am overclocking for two reasons, first of which is to get my feet wet, and second is just to gain a minor bonus (if possible - grab an e8500 for the price of an e8400, something like that.) If it doesn't turn out well, I'm fine with leaving it at 3-3.2GHz as it should still be over a 100% improve...

Usually, a fan suggestion on this site comes with the implicit advice to use it undervolted. Very rarely is a full-speed fan called for. I just have a few comments that either haven't been made, or need to be reiterated: First, you don't want the Copper Ninja, you just want the Ninja . It costs and ...

Your current server will probably run XP well enough to stream videos if you upgrade to 512MB RAM. It'd be painfully slow for normal computing tasks, but serving movies on the network is pretty easy. You could also upgrade the server if you're concerned it's not powerful enough - your Athlon XP will...

One of these should do you just fine.
I can't find exact specs on that chip, but from comparing it to similar models, I can say it'll use less than 15 watts, and probably more like 10, at full load. At idle, I doubt it'll make any difference to your power draw or system cooling.

I'm pretty sure the discrepancy shows up in every Intel with a 100C maximum Tjunction. That means it's present in all Allendale chips (E2xx0 and E4x00) as well as all Conroe chips from the G0 stepping (E6x50 and some quads, I think). I'm using CoreTemp 0.96, and I know it correctly handles these pro...

Unless they are beyond convincing, I suspect you'd be fine with onboard. Photo manipulation is generally done by the processor, not the graphics card. As cpemma said, the readings with 'core' in the name are from the CPU's internal sensors, while the other reading is a less-accurate motherboard-based reading which you might as well ignore. However, the 'core' readings on certain recent Intel CPUs read 15C too low through most monitoring software. ...

The reason the card doesn't support the monitor isn't related to processing power, it's related to dual-link DVI. If you don't play any games, the card you have is more than fast enough to run 2D tasks at that resolution, but the connection between the card and monitor can't carry enough data to man...

I'll admit I didn't read through all five pages of this thread, but I thought I'd throw my opinion in about mounting drives at an angle. The forces inside the drive due to its own operation are so high that gravity is completely irrelevant. Gravity has the highest effect on the arm and read heads wh...

Optical drives don't have any particular need for cooling, and will run quite happily for many years in that pocket of hot air. Look around at a few computers; most power supplies these days come with a single 120mm fan on the bottom, so a large majority of the computers in use today have that very ...

You're exactly right, and that's what confuses me about how many modern cases have ventilation holes all over. I think Intel is partly responsible for that, with their "Thermally Advantaged Chassis," but I think it's nonsense. Adding vents all over the side of the case doesn't improve ventilation, i...

That setup should be just fine, although you may need to strap a fan to the graphics card. Not for sure, but possibly. You should run the fans at whatever speed they cool effectively at. Nobody is really going to be able to say for sure, so you'll have to test things. Run SpeedFan (remember to adjus...

I haven't heard anything about this; in fact, I didn't even know it was available for purchase yet. However, I'd be careful of it in a quiet system. I can't comment on the choice of fans, as I don't have any experience with that. However, you might look at the faster Scythe fans; my understanding is that undervolting the faster models will get slightly better airflow for the same amount of noise. If your current video card is good enough, why no...

Stock CPU cooler comparison
Would it be possible for SPCR to do a roundup of stock CPU coolers? Obviously the results won't be relevant to anything outside of that article, because it would have to cover a number of different CPUs, power outputs, sockets, and mounting systems, but it would be nice to know what's out there for ...
