Seb, I'm inclined to agree with your assessment. I have moved the shaders back down to 1500 on the 260 without downclocking since (over ten weeks ago). Overheating, lockups, whatever. I'm at the point where I just want the damn thing to work so I don't care if it isn't the fastest anymore.

It may take York 31+ years to the next milestone, but every bit helps.

Keep up the great work, ya'll.

I've never had that happen on either the 9800 GT or 9600 GT. I wonder if it is specific to the 260.

Cordis, you just had to bring up Fry's again and make me almost wish I was back in Phoenix again.

Almost. That was intern year and I can't ever look at a cactus without remembering how utterly miserable I was. Still. . . . Almost.

So my question for cordis, aris, and all you others is this: are you waiting for the new Fermi cards before upgrading you kit, are you going to go with new hardware that's out currently, or are you going to just wait for changes in the FAH landscape (new clients, etc.) and take a wait and see approa...

$200? Ouch! I don't even have a landline anymore, just cable internet at home. Even then, it's on the brink more than I would want (Charter in Rochester, MN = teh fail). So now I'm using several of my personal boxes at work where the connection is much more stable. The thing I have to worry about no...

i'm almost at the point where i'll only believe anything about a card when it's been reviewed. too much fud, misinformation, fanboyism, general crap out there about the current new ati and upcoming nvidia cards. if that power info is accurate, and the performance hints are correct, then the price is...

Re: because

Come on, you've got idle transistors, they were made to switch. They're just sitting there waiting for a drain-source current surge to make them feel alive, but there they sit, idle. You're disappointing them. There's an Indian engineer staring out a window here in the valley with a single tear fal...

And i should start my own internet pharmacy business, too! Hey, aris. The pc is on "always on" power state. Only the monitor turns off after 10 minutes, nothing else. I thought this stuff was behind me, dropped the clocks on the shaders down to about 1500, core down to 555, memory down around 900. Then, I walk in to my office today and I have a "SHAKE" viol...

I think it really depends on the number of shaders that have to be fed and the power of the cpu in relation to the gpu. More shaders, more cpu power needed. I can't really fold on the dual core celeron that I have because it has to feed a 9600 (only 64 shaders at that!). On the flip side, a quad cor...

so do you think the fourth card not holding onto the settings is a windows issue, an nvidia issue, a client issue, or a hardware issue?
