Re: SP1614C Silent or DOA?

New Egg delivered a SP1614C yesterday. BIOS/CMOS does not detect the drive, I double checked the cables. I hooked everything up and laid the drive on a piece of foam in the bottom of my case. I can't hear the drive spin. I even picked it up and put my ear on the case. All I can hear is a series of ...

Also would be hard to believe that a 'duff' psu can cause so much collateral damage to 2 drives without other symptoms (so far). The hdd motors run off +12V - do you know if your VCore regulation is from +12V (P4, some recent AMD) or +5V (all others)? P4 - see sig. VCore seemed stable in MBM, but I...

Troubleshooting Spinpoint 1614N Failure

Sorry if this gets long. I want to include as many details as possible. The situation is described in detail, the questions I have are at the bottom. Last week, my wife was working on the computer and called to say Windows had locked up. The machine then rebooted itself and could not get past the "D...

I didn't vote because my choice wasn't there: Does it really matter? It's only the belief that does. Is that another form of the statement, "it doesn't matter what you believe as long as you are sincere about it"? To those who say there is not a god: From a logic PoV, doesn't conclusively saying th...

Am surprised amoung the hf noise from your Samsungs. They must be a different model than the ones I've used in the last few mos -- all SP 7200 rpm models, no whine. Any reason you have ruled out the Antec 3700 series? Is the "bronze" too close to black? Check the Cases and Damping section of the main site for reviews. And these cases get discussed in the forums quite a bit, so try searching. They are only 1.3" taller, .25" wider, and .6" longer than the Sonata ...

Your 2.4GHz P4 burns significantly less power than his 3GHz P4 though (higher clock AND higher core voltage, the latter being the biggest problem). A good 300W supply may be adequate, but he doesn't have one, and if you're buying a new supply spending the extra bucks on a good 400W model is the way...

If you search the threads you can find some recommendations on quiet floppy drives. I don't know if anyone has tried modding a floppy drive for quieter operation. You may want to get a 32 MB USB key instead. It costs as much as a floppy drive, is much faster and can store more. USB drives cost arou...

So, is Trip's statement above wrong then? I'm not sure exactly what Trip means, but you cannot "create" a L1BX from an L1A just by swapping out the tail or adding a 3-pin connector. I tried it ( see this thread for results ) and the circuitry in the fans is not the same between the A and the BX fans.
