I would suggest H55 motherboard (microITX if there isn't room for bigger) and i3 processor with integrated graphics. I suppose you could run that with 120W and make cooling easy.

Try my method: Walk away until you can't hear it any more and measure the distance. To make sure you can't hear it in certain distance, cut the power / set to sleep mode from that distance and make sure you don't notify any difference in sound lvl when the power goes off. Take care that ambient nois...

"superquiet, almost silent" with a stock PSU? And DVD? I'm sorry but I'd like to ask if you've heard a quiet PC yet? To your question about the cases: Sonata Elite 19-37dB, Mini P180 22-44dB (measured in 19dB ambient noise with different stock fan setups.) Temperatures varies too. But read yourself:...

Best program would: 1. read motherboard info to know all the pins and all the sensors 2. set any fan to on/off with any temperature in any sensor 3. give full voltage to start the fan, then reduce voltage to minimum spinning level 4. ha...

I don't have a need for more cooling or less noise any more in the upper chamber, it's inaudible. I also need to get rid of other noise sources in the surrounding before I open the PSU to make lower chamber inaudible too, since now here are several sources louder than my PC (aquarium pump, Sony 40" ...

Luckily reading posts is inaudible, it would really be noisy here otherwise. Most of the noise would, however, be great by sound (not annoying at all). I love active forums.

P182 and P183 should have room for 8 or even more drives - with 2 of them mounted on the floor of upper or lower chamber anyway. If you don't use all the 5"1/4 bays, there's a lot of room up there too but some modding for cooling them is necessary.

All the parts in a silent build should be able to handle all your personal requirements, but without any unnecessary power consumption. In your list it might be worth to give a second thought for that processor. That one (i7 860) will only use around 10% of it capability in most jobs but IDLE's with...

I think the idea is green. A lot of computers idle a lot, some close to 24/7 so all that can be done is good to do.
