Re: WD 3TB Green released
 this thread is so win  Seeing this news made me think about two things: one, like you mentioned, is that I'd love to see this same platter density carried over into the 1.5tb GP's. And two, having 3tb drives on the market will surely help lower the price of 'smaller' 1 and 2tb drives...

Re: Successful phpbb upgrade
Hey Admins, I'm not sure if this question has been asked already in another thread, but why did you ditch the page numbers on all new reviews? I liked being able to click to the last page on reviews I wasn't particularly interest in, just to see the result and take a mental note. Now, that would mea...

Re: WD Caviar Black 2TB & VelociRaptor 600GB
60gb is so miniscule, I dont have that even on 8 year old crap laptops. I dont think most people do much with their pc's if 60gb covers their loaded programs and apps.
Although I wouldn't buy an SSD less than 80gb, I think you're overestimating exactly how much space you n...

Personally, I'd never spend that much on a computer. You can build the same thing yourself for less money since you're not paying for labor & overhead..
That is, if you've got the time I suppose.

Re: Where is the noise coming from?
Do a pencil eraser test. Turn the computer on, open up the side panel, and carefully tap a pencil eraser onto the center hub of all your fans. This will slow it down instantly, and if you hear the obnoxious noise go away, you found your source.

Re: Lan-Gear BETA mITX build
Here, have some circuit board to go with your fans. :P http://www.deskpicture.com/DPs/Technology/CircuitBoard_2.jpg haha..no in all honesty I like this build a lot. And it does have the potential to be somewhat quiet because those fans can be turned down so low and still move a decent amount of air....

The velociraptor is somewhat of a mystery to me, sure it offers a lot more storage for the money compared to a SSD but the cost is still to high. I'd save up for a SSD anytime. 600 GB of SSD space currently means another x5 price hike compared to the Velociraptor (x10 if you have room for just one ...

yeah I'm not sure who is buying velociraptors these days..like you said yourself in the conclusion section, for that price you could buy a decent SSD for the OS and a nice quiet storage drive. I just don't see the appeal to the 10K RPM drives anymore.. The caviar black makes a little more sense, but...

OH by the way..when you have multiple drives in your computer one thing you need to be concerned with is harmonic frequencies between the two drives. When I installed my second drive, the combination of the two in the hard drive cage caused them to hum in a throbbing sort of way. Hummmm....hummmmmm....

well, it depends how you define 'playing games'. If the time it takes to load a game is a major concern for you, you should use a faster RPM drive. That said, the difference in raw data transfer is unnoticeable in MOST applications. For games, all you're really concerned with usually is video graphi...

if you're going with the 640gig drive as your scratch disk, don't even bother getting a 2tb caviar black as your everything else drive. for that you want a 5400RPM (or eqivallent) drive, becasue speed isn't an issue. This is for stuff like movies, pictures, music etc. Essentially sacrifice blisterin...

Considering most maistream useres build systems that require 200-300W on load I'd like to see more+better PSUs with 400W-500W printed on them. To be honest, I'm not even sure it's that much. My computer doesn't use a hair above 200W load, and I have the CPU and GPU overclocked. I can't see too many...

very familiar with the first law of thermo, but thanks! what I was getting at was that not all of the electrical power that enters a CPU is dissipated as heat, some of it is rejected as signal energy and is dissipated though other components such as the motherboard. Yes, in the end, all the power yo...

But isn't that pretty easy to calculate by yourself? X watts of heat from the CPU should mean X watt more for the AC to take care of. Same in the reversed case - if you pay for heating in the winter that's X extra watt of heat. And the reviewer wouldn't know the efficiency of your AC or my radiator...

HEY, welcome to SPCR As for your build..it doesn't look bad to be honest. I would not go with such a high power PSU to be honest...you'll use 200W MAX during HD playback. Any idea if it's possible to mount a 120mm fan to the front of the case? It's possible if you're willing to mod the case. Is this a serious question? There are fan cutouts on the inside-front of the case specifically designed to mount fans there. No mod needed! (unless you're talking about the abso...

As for the case fans in the front, I would consider buying one or two of these to go in the 92mm holes. Don't skimp on these fans as the smaller size of the 92mm can make some models VERY annoying. These noctuas ought to be silent, but you may have to hook up some speed controllers (or motherboard) ...
